Industrial Hygienist, SC
We are seeking a qualified Industrial Hygienist to join our client site supporting industrial hygiene operations in Aiken, South Carolina. This role is responsible for conducting exposure assessments and sampling activities, with a primary focus on silica, VOCs, noise, and nuisance dust monitoring, along with other exposure sampling as required by project needs.
This is a long-term assignment (approximately 2 years) requiring full-time, on-site commitment and site approval prior to start.
Responsibilities:
- Perform industrial hygiene exposure sampling, including but not limited to silica, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), noise, and nuisance dust; additional exposure sampling may be required based on project needs
- Conduct and/or produce exposure assessments in accordance with project scope and applicable regulatory requirements
- Determine appropriate sampling equipment and methodologies for specific hazards and work conditions
- Demonstrate technical competency in the setup, calibration, and operation of industrial hygiene sampling equipment
- Maintain industrial hygiene equipment, including upkeep of equipment management files and conducting equipment-specific training for personnel
- Notify supervisors and affected personnel of sampling and monitoring results in a timely manner
- Perform industrial hygiene surveys, studies, and investigations as assigned
- Maintain accurate records, including exposure assessments, fit-test records, training documentation, and applicable medical surveillance information
- Prepare and submit Exposure Assessment Reports and Exposure Sampling Plans in compliance with 10 CFR 851.21, within 30 days of project notification when requested
- Evaluate and document exposure data sources, which may include SDS-referenced materials, disturbed materials (e.g., asbestos, lead, silica), physical hazards (noise, heat/cold stress, ergonomics), biological agents (mold, sewage), personal air sampling, direct-reading instrumentation, dosimetry, physiological monitoring, modeling, and Hazard Risk Assessments
- Recommend and implement more conservative exposure controls as needed to protect worker safety during sample collection activities
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following minimum requirements to qualify as a Contractor Industrial Hygiene Representative:
- Option A: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential; or
- Option B: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Medicine, or a related physical/biological science, plus a minimum of 7 years of full-time industrial hygiene experience.
Preferred:
Candidates with a strong industrial hygiene background, applicable degree (BS in Safety or Industrial Hygiene preferred), and 7+ years of relevant sampling experience are encouraged to apply.
