The Planet Group is looking for an Infrastructure Automation Engineer to join our well-known Fortune 500 client on a 3-months contract, working remotely.
Infrastructure Automation Engineer | Qualifications:
- Automation & Provisioning: Deep hands-on experience with VMware Aria / vRealize Automation 8.x (Cloud Assembly, ABX, or vRO), Terraform (vSphere, AWS, and Proxmox providers), and Ansible.
- Migration Tooling: Proven experience converting VMware VMs to KVM/QEMU formats using tools like virt-v2v and qemu-img.
- Platform Knowledge: Familiarity with Proxmox VE administration (VM/template management, storage, networking) and multi-OS environments (Windows, Linux, and Intel macOS).
- Security & Cloud Admin: Experience with AWS SSM (hybrid activations, IAM) and SentinelOne agent deployment across multiple operating systems.
- CI/CD & Dev Tools: Proficiency with GitLab, gitlab-ci.yml multi-stage pipelines, JFrog Artifactory, and secret management tools (e.g., 1Password Vaults).
- Scripting: Proficient in Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell.
- Soft Skills: Proactive communicator comfortable raising risks early, working closely with team leaders, and collaborating cross-functionally with Security and Infrastructure groups.
Infrastructure Automation Engineer | Description:
Environment Provisioning & Integration- Template Development: Build reusable, parameterized templates across Aria Automation, Terraform, and Ansible supporting Windows, Linux, and Intel-based macOS.
- Security Integration: Automate AWS SSM Agent installation (including hybrid activations for on-premises targets) and SentinelOne silent deployment.
- Security Collaboration: Partner cross-functionally with the internal Security team to define, validate, and document a formal exclusions process and upfront activation system.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Maintain all code in GitLab following standard software hygiene (branching, MRs). Build and support multi-stage GitLab CI pipelines (Dev, Staging, Prod) utilizing Artifactory.
- Inventory & Assessment: Inventory 1,500-2,000 VMs (~300TB-500TB data volume), identifying VMware-specific dependencies and advising the infrastructure team on Proxmox capacity planning.
- Automation Tooling: Develop a migration script toolkit (Bash, Python, PowerShell, or Ansible) utilizing virt-v2v and qemu-img to automate VM export, format conversion, and Proxmox import.
- Post-Migration Workflow: Automate network remapping, hardware profiling, and immediate post-migration re-registration of SSM and SentinelOne agents.
- Execution & Validation: Execute phased migrations (lower-risk to production) with strict validation checks. Coordinate downtime windows with end-users and consult proactively with the team leader.
- Deliver runbooks for all templates, pipelines, and migration workflows, alongside a standalone operations guide for the script toolkit.
- Conduct comprehensive knowledge transfer sessions with the internal infrastructure team.
