Inpatient Unit Certified Nursing Assistant (46444)
Under general supervision of the Inpatient Unit Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurses, the Inpatient Unit Nursing Assistant provides basic nursing care requiring knowledge and application of standard procedures and instructions and supports the nursing staff. Upholds the principles of Winslow Indian Health Care Center, Inc. (“WIHCC”) Vision, Mission, and Value Statements. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information at all times.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the CNA’s scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.
- Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the CNA’s scope of practice.
- Meets communication needs of patients and families.
- Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a CNA.
- Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patient.
- Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate to the Registered Nurse (RN) any observed changes in patient status and responses.
- Maintains awareness of the needs of the geriatric and general patient population.
- Demonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s age and physical condition.
- Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient; answers questions within scope of practice.
- Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to RN, co-workers, and health care providers.
- Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, including geriatric and general population.
- Demonstrates an ability to assist health care providers with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
- Demonstrates ability to take and record all vital signs and communicates with RN on any abnormal or critical values.
- Reports any unusual conditions or emergencies to RN or health care provider.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Interacts in an honest, trustworthy, and dependable manner with patient/family, employees, visitors and vendors.
- Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Ensures medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatment and special procedures.
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
- Transports patients to other areas in the facility as needed.
- Performs and obtains tests and procedures, such as EKGs, cardiac monitoring lead placements, weights/heights, point of care waived tests (rapid flu, HgbA1C, glucose reading, UA, etc.).
- Ensures patient rooms and equipment are properly cleaned and restocked after patient care and between patients.
- Performs general maintenance duties after all patient care needs are met, including cleaning, arranging and restocking supply cupboards; cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment; calling attention to deficiencies in supplies and equipment; cleaning utility room; and bagging soiled linens. These maintenance duties will not supersede patient care assignments or requested tasks.
