Insurance Product Analyst

This role sits at the intersection of data, insurance product strategy, and portfolio performance, with a direct impact on the profitability and competitiveness of a growing pet insurance business. You will analyze key insurance metrics, uncover trends in claims and underwriting performance, and translate complex data into actionable recommendations. Working closely with actuarial, underwriting, and product teams, you will help shape pricing decisions, product design, and regulatory compliance across multiple markets. The environment is fast-paced, analytical, and highly collaborative, requiring both technical fluency and business acumen. Your insights will directly influence how insurance products evolve to balance customer value, regulatory requirements, and sustainable growth. Accountabilities:
- Analyze portfolio performance including premiums, loss ratios, frequency/severity trends, retention, and overall product profitability to identify growth and optimization opportunities.
- Develop and maintain insurance KPI dashboards and reporting tools to support decision-making across product, actuarial, and underwriting teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert on insurance product structures, rating methodologies, underwriting guidelines, and state-specific regulatory variations.
- Work with multiple structured data sources (policy administration systems, claims databases, rating engines) to ensure accurate and reliable insights.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses on emerging issues such as loss ratio changes, rate adequacy gaps, underwriting leakage, or regulatory impacts.
- Collaborate with actuarial and underwriting teams to support pricing reviews, rate filings, product updates, and performance monitoring.
- Provide strategic recommendations on pricing, product design, and portfolio adjustments based on analytical findings and market trends.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in P&C insurance, pet insurance, underwriting, pricing, product analytics, or related areas.
- Strong understanding of insurance performance metrics such as loss ratio, combined ratio, rate adequacy, frequency, severity, and retention.
- Proficiency in analytical tools such as SQL, Python, R, SAS, and data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Experience working with insurance data systems including policy administration, claims platforms, and rating engines.
- Ability to communicate complex insurance and analytical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
