Intake and Discharge Planning Assistant Supervisor (Behavioral Health)

Arlington County’s Department of Human Services (DHS), Behavioral Healthcare Division (BHD), seeks an Intake and Discharge Planning Assistant Supervisor for the Client Services Entry Bureau to support clinical and administrative management of intake and discharge programs.

This team of eight (8) mental health professionals serves two functions: to act as the central point of service entry to adults seeking mental health and substance abuse services using the Same Day Access (SDA) model, and to provide discharge planning services for individuals hospitalized at the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute (NVMHI).

Specific duties include:

  • Assisting with daily coverage of SDA including triage, complex case consultation and intake assessment completion and/or backup coverage coordination;
  • Developing treatment plans and making internal or external referrals in line with eligibility requirements;
  • Reviewing clinical records to ensure administrative and regulatory requirements are met;
  • Consulting with other DHS providers and outside agencies on clients who present with behavioral health concerns;
  • Providing assistance with contract monitoring and oversight for all Regional Discharge Assistance Program (RDAP) clients;
  • Attending local, regional or state meetings related to SDA or Discharge Planning as requested by the Program Manager;
  • Collecting and evaluating data in relation to agency and state regulations or requirements;
  • Identifying client needs, evaluating service effectiveness, and recommending needed service or program modifications;
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of the program budget, including revenues, expenditures, and reimbursement opportunities; and
  • Aiding in the oversite and discharge of those acquitted by Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI).

Minimum:

Education: A Master's degree in a clinical discipline including Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic and treatment services prior to graduation;

Experience: Considerable full-time post-Master's Degree experience providing direct clinical social work or clinical mental health/substance abuse services, including one-year minimum working with seriously mentally ill individuals;

License: Must possess, or obtain within 90 days of employment, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Coordinating/administering services;
  • Program or project analysis, planning, and evaluation;
  • Assessment of individuals’ needs for mental health and substance abuse services; and/or
  • Assessment of individuals’ emergent needs or crisis situations.

Special Requirements

Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. Applicants may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. A State of Virginia Central Registry check will be required upon hire.

Employment restrictions: To ensure that dual relationships are avoided and that employees who are also clients do not relate to their service provider as co-professionals, employees will not be hired by the County to provide or support services to the team or program in which they are current clients:

  • You cannot concurrently receive behavioral health services from Arlington County Community Service Board (CSB) programs while employed in an Arlington County CSB program (exception Crisis Intervention services).
  • At least 24 months must have passed between receipt of CSB services from Arlington County and employment in an Arlington County CSB program.

Additional Information

Work Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some evening or weekend work may be required including after- hours telephone coverage to support other Client Services Entry programs as needed.
