Intelligence Analyst and Liaison Officer
Reporting directly to the Intelligence Analyst Manager, the Intelligence Analyst & Liaison Officer is responsible for executing mission objectives in strict accordance with DEA training and customer requirements. This pivotal role serves as the primary conduit between the Customer and DEA Aircrew, translating operational requirements into clear tasking instructions for the Task Specialist team. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the analyst ensures end-to-end mission success.
Liaising & Intel Planning
- Mission Planning: Carry out detailed pre-flight mission planning and information gathering, ensuring the Task Specialist (TS) has all necessary intelligence.
- Intel Sourcing: Utilise OSINT sources (NGO, VOIs) and liaise with other national LOs and the customers to gather relevant operational intelligence.
- Briefing: Attend and contribute to the Pre-mission brief.
Operational Liaison & Tasking
- Act as Liaison Officer (LO): Serve as the primary communication link between the customer (e.g., OPC EST) and DEA/ESAO Aircrew.
- Determine Tasking: Determine tasking requirements from the customer and communicate these clearly and concisely to the aircraft Task Specialist (TS).
- Event Notification: Notify the Customer and TS of key events and disseminate information (e.g., POIs, Mig Boat locations) to relevant agencies promptly.
- Flight Safety Support: Assist the safe conduct of the flight through external observation, checking Wx/NOTAMS, and liaising with secondary agencies.
- Manage Changes: Alert the Pilot in Command (PIC) and TS to any issues (e.g., Wx, NOTAMs, late tasking changes like SAR) that may cause a revision or termination of the flight.
Technical Oversight & Reporting
- Defect Recording: Record and report technical defects with the IA mission equipment (hardware, software, network connectivity) to DEA/ESAO Systems and the Intelligence Analyst Manager (IAM).
- TEMR & Mission Reporting: Be responsible for Customer - Technical Equipment Mission Report (TEMR) writing and the distribution of mission-sensitive data according to customer guidelines.
- Data Management: Upload and store all mission data to the appropriate area/portal, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of contracted hours and other mission stats and report them weekly to the IA Manager.
Oversight & Handover
- Provide Oversight: Provide oversight of the aircraft and crews during out-of-normal operating hours of DEA/ESAO Operations.
- Handover Procedure: Ensure a full, comprehensive handover of mission equipment and related information between the outgoing and incoming IA during crew changes, including mission objectives and limitations.
- SOP Management: Communicate changes in SOPs, highlight issues, and suggest solutions/requests for change to the Leads team.
- Administrative Support: Assist DEA/ESAO Operations and IA Department Management with day-to-day administration in the deployed location (e.g., IT husbandry, rosters).
