Interdisciplinary Project Teacher - World Course

At Avenues, history is taught through integrated project experiences where students learn by doing, and gain the skills of critical thinking, written and oral communication, and historical thinking.

In this teaching role, you will inspire students to grow deeply as historials, helping them grapple with questions that are both intellectually demanding and immediately relevant. You will exemplify the very qualities we ask of our students: the boldness to take risks, the creativity to solve complex problems, and the collaborative spirit to make those around you better.

What you'll do

1. Transformative Instruction & Classroom Culture

  • Nurture Growth: Guide students to grow dramatically as historians, ensuring that every learner—from the tentative beginner to the advanced artist—reaches their full potential.

  • Cultivate Safety & Risk-Taking: Build an atmosphere where students feel safe to fail, experiment, and try out new ideas

  • Master Your Craft: Commit deeply to your own professional evolution. You will treat your teaching as a craft, constantly refining it through peer observation, supervisor feedback, and examining your students’ work.

2. Curriculum & Program Innovation

  • Design Meaningful Interdisciplinary Projects: Creatively develop a world course curriculum that integrates fully into student project work. You will guide students through the entire lifecycle of a project—from initial spark and intention to critical reflection and final realization.

  • Public Exhibition: Support students in successfully showcasing their work both inside and outside of our community.

3. Deep Collaboration & Community Engagement

  • Collaborative Design: Work intensively with colleagues across disciplines to design interdisciplinary projects that make learning cohesive and deep.

  • Trust-Based Relationships: Build strong, transparent partnerships with parents through high-quality communication, insightful conferences, and the ability to navigate difficult conversations with grace.

  • Professional Integrity: Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct—from documenting student data and curriculum to meeting deadlines with precision and accountability.

About you

  • You have substantial experience (3+ years) teaching History/World Course full-time in a Secondary environment.

  • You hold a Teaching Degree with teaching certification in History, Geography, Integrated Humanities, Social Studies, Humanities, Social Sciences, Philosophy, or Sociology.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English (formal and informal). You are comfortable interfacing with families, faculty, and partner organizations.

  • You possess a deep individual creative potential and a firm foundation in artistic techniques. You understand that in art, asking the right questions is as important as finding the right answers.

  • You are expert at providing authentic, frequent, and meaningful feedback that helps students understand their own learning process and craftsmanship.
