International Tech Reporter

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal seeks a London-based reporter to cover the most important business story of our age: the impact of AI on the world.

This job uses Europe—and the world more broadly outside the U.S.—as a listening post for stories about countries and companies that are competing to get ahead in artificial intelligence. We want you to explore how AI is changing business, governments, war, religion, human relationships and beyond.

The preferred candidate will have several years of journalism experience and a demonstrated skill at demystifying complex topics for educated readers. The person should have a hunger to learn about what’s on the bleeding edge of the tech world and to show how AI is changing the lives of ordinary people.

The person should be eager, flexible, fast, good natured and eager to work with colleagues across three continents, often at inconvenient hours. This is a classic Wall Street Journal reporter job, which entails everything from breaking news to the deepest dives. A passion for storytelling is key.

Candidates should submit a resume and up to five clips of their most distinctive work.

The job reports to Alex Frangos, Europe Business Finance & Economics Editor.

You will:

  • Write big, scoopy articles about the winners and losers in AI and tech.

  • Handle breaking news quickly and work on longer, enterprise articles.

  • Use storytelling, often through the lives of real people, to help our millions of readers understand the impact of AI and tech more broadly.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with high level sources in the world of tech and government.

  • Use a reader centric approach to write stories that resonate and impact the world.

  • Use the Journal’s AI tools to help us move faster and deeper on stories.

You have:

  • Published an impressive run of coverage at your previous job.

  • A love for covering the world through the lens of business, finance and economics.

  • Clean writing skills and an adherence to the highest ethical standards.

  • A collaborative spirit, positive attitude and a style that gets the best out of your colleagues.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter detailing how you would do the job, and five examples of your best work by July 31th. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and we encourage early submission as the position may be filled before the deadline.
