Background

Edify is in the process of conducting an external verification of its School Self-Assessment (SSA) data across 963 schools in three countries namely the Dominican Republic, Liberia, and Uganda. This internship is timed to coincide with the wrap-up of verification cycles in Liberia, Uganda, and the Dominican Republic, providing a unique opportunity for cross-country meta-analysis. This is an unpaid, remote internship; however, the organization will provide a dedicated allowance to support your internet and communication costs.

Objectives

  • Analyze and compare SSA verification findings from Liberia, Uganda, and the Dominican Republic to identify global vs. local data quality trends.
  • Understand the "Source-to-System" pipeline through direct engagement with staff in the Dominican Republic, Liberia, and Uganda to provide independent feedback on how to tighten data collection protocols.
  • Assist in the finalization and "translation" of the SSA Verification Reports for Edify’s leadership.

Scope of Work and Specific Tasks

1 Meta-Analysis of Verification Results

  • Data Aggregation: Review final verification reports and discrepancy logs from all three countries to identify common systemic issues.
  • Root Cause Mapping: Create a consolidated "Global SSA Error Map" that categorizes discrepancies by type (e.g., training gaps, tool design, or reporting pressure).
  • Visualization: Develop high-level dashboards in Excel or Google Sheets to visualize the "Accuracy Rate" across the three regions for Edify Leadership.

2 Online Cross-Regional Engagement

  • Participate in virtual cross-regional meetings and interviews with Edify field teams (Uganda, DR, and Liberia) to understand local data quality challenges.
  • Analyze meeting notes with local field officers and school leaders to understand how they use SSA data for program evaluation and strategic planning.
  • Conduct deep-dive virtual sessions with country program staff and document the "Source-to-System" pipeline for best practices in data integrity where needed.

3 Independent Feedback & Process Improvement

  • Draft a briefing note on the practical improvements to the SSA survey (e.g., User Interface/User Experience changes, logic checks, or training modules) to reduce the error rates based on field observations.
  • Develop a "User Guide" for school leaders to improve their understanding of Informed Consent and Ethical Compliance during self-assessments.

Deliverables

  • Deliverable 1: SSA Verification Summary: A 3-page executive brief and 7 to 10-slide deck summarizing the verification results for all three countries (Dominican Republic, Liberia, and Uganda) for SLT, the Board of Directors, and possibly the donors as well.
  • Deliverable 2: Cross-Regional Engagement Summary: A detailed but concise log of virtual engagement sessions, focusing on SSA implementation and proposing three high-impact, digitally focused changes to the SSA process to reinforce credibility and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a Graduate or advanced postgraduate program in Statistics, International Development, Data Science, or Education.
  • Strong proficiency in data visualization tools (Excel, Tableau, etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage remote collaboration across multiple time zones and work effectively in diverse cultural environments.
  • Critical thinking skills to provide Independent Feedback that may challenge existing processes.
  • Professional fluency in both English and Spanish.

Timeline

  • Duration: 8 weeks maximum
  • Phase 1 (Weeks 1-2): Onboarding, reviewing verification data, reports, and the database.
  • Phase 2 (Weeks 3-4): Virtual cross-regional engagement and deep-dive analysis sessions.
  • Phase 3 (Weeks 5-8): Synthesis, final reporting, and presentation.
