Investment Manager, Investment & Business Development

Reporting to: Director, Investments, Asia

The Opportunity

New Forests is seeking an experienced investment professional to join our Asia team as Investment Manager, Investment &Business Development.

This role will support the continued growth of New Forests'natural capital investment platform across Asia. The successful candidate willplay a key role in fundraising, investment origination, transaction execution,investor engagement and strategic business development initiatives. Workingclosely with investment, asset management, investor relations and businessdevelopment teams, the candidate will contribute to the expansion of New Forests' investment activities across forestry, agriculture, carbon and othernature-based sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Origination & Execution

  • Identify, originate and evaluate investment opportunities across forestry, agriculture, natural capital, carbon and related sectors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry participants, landowners, strategic partners, investors and government stakeholders.
  • Lead or support transaction execution, including financial analysis, valuation, commercial due diligence, financial modelling and deal structuring.
  • Prepare investment papers, business cases and recommendations for investment committees and senior management.
  • Support acquisition, divestment, joint venture and strategic partnership transactions.

Fundraising & Investor Relations

  • Support fundraising activities for existing and future investment vehicles.
  • Assist in the preparation of investor presentations, due diligence materials, marketing collateral and fundraising documentation.
  • Participate in investor meetings and support ongoing engagement with institutional investors and strategic partners.
  • Work closely with Investor Relations teams to communicate investment strategies and market opportunities.

Portfolio Growth & Business Development

  • Support co-investment opportunities and fund financing initiatives.
  • Conduct market research and industry analysis to identify emerging investment themes and growth opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of new investment products, strategies and business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities for portfolio expansion and value creation.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships across the natural capital ecosystem.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with internal teams across Investments, Asset Management, Business Development and Investor Relations.
  • Engage with shareholders, investors, business partners, government agencies and industry associations.
  • Support cross-border projects and transactions across Asia-Pacific and other regions where required.

Qualifications, Experience & Strengths

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience in investment management, private equity, infrastructure, natural capital, forestry, agriculture, carbon markets, conservation finance or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in natural capital investments, sustainable land use, forestry, agriculture, environmental markets or real asset investing.
  • Strong financial modelling, valuation, commercial due diligence and transaction execution experience.
  • Proven ability to originate, assess and execute investment opportunities.
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and managing diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Professional proficiency in English and Japanese (written and spoken).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Japanese investors, shareholders, business partners and headquarters teams.
  • Ability to review, analyse and prepare business correspondence, presentations and investment documentation in both English and Japanese.
  • Strong analytical, commercial and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel for business to remote area.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in timberland, plantation forestry, sustainable agriculture, carbon projects, conservation finance or nature-based solutions.
  • Experience supporting institutional fundraising, capital raising or investor relations activities.
  • Familiarity with ESG, climate-related investments and sustainability frameworks.
  • Existing professional network within the natural capital, forestry, agriculture or institutional investment sectors.
  • Experience working with Japanese multinational corporations, financial institutions or investment platforms.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, CFA, Master's in Finance, Forestry, Environmental Management or related discipline) is advantageous.
