As the Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel, you are responsible for independently managing all IP-related aspects, providing strategic guidance, integrating key IP and business perspectives, drafting and negotiating contracts, leveraging IP portfolios, mentoring junior professionals, coordinating with outside counsel, and ensuring compliance with evolving IP laws. The role understands the IP and business landscape, explaining implications and managing risks while adapting services to client needs. The role reviews IP Rights by understanding client needs and proposing diverse solutions. The role finalizes innovative ideas to improve IP processes and optimize operations.
Your role:
Serves as the business partner on all IP related aspects independently, provides strategic guidance and support, seeks direction from an experienced IP Counsel when necessary to ensure alignment with legal standards. Ensures key IP and business perspectives are integrated by closely consulting with clients, ensures direct alignment and relation with long term goals and strategic direction, and independently manages non-standard situations. Evaluates, analyzes, drafts, negotiates, and monitors non-standard contracts, both internal and external, ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risks, and aligning with business objectives.
Understands the current and future intellectual property and business landscape, explains the IP implications of business goals, manages associated risks, and adapts approaches and solutions offered to meet varying client needs effectively. Reviews Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) by thoroughly understanding client needs, utilizing lateral thinking to approach issues from multiple perspectives, proposing diverse solutions and identifying information gaps and flawed analyses. Finalizes innovative ideas to improve intellectual property (IP) processes, streamlining operations, enhancing efficiency, and identifying opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and improved protection of the firm’s IP assets.
Drives the risks, consequences, and value of IP proposals based on business expertise, contributes to leveraging Philips' IP portfolio, and supports asserting IP rights against third parties through license negotiations and agreements. Provides guidance, mentorship, and support to junior professionals, nurtures their professional development, and facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team. Coordinates with outside counsel and IP consultants to ensure seamless collaboration on intellectual property matters, providing legal guidance, and managing patent filings. Stays informed on evolving intellectual property laws and regulations to ensure organizational compliance, adjust IP strategies, and mitigate potential legal risks, protecting and enhancing the company’s intellectual property assets.
You're the right fit if:
You’ve acquired 8+ years of experience with Bachelor's with a technical background preferably with subject matter knowledge in technology domains like audio/video compression/codecs, and wireless connectivity technologies such as 3GPP/WiFi OR Minimum 6+ years of experience with Master's in technical areas such as Patents, R&D, Trademarks, Designs, Intellectual Property Management, or equivalent.
Your skills include experience in handling IP matters relating to drafting and prosecution, defending IP assertions, contributing to IP litigation and/or IP licensing. You also possess excellent analytical and intellectual capabilities; in combination with key communications skills to operate at all levels both internally and externa
You have a Master's/ PhD Degree in Intellectual Property, IP Management, IP Counsel, Business Administration, Law or equivalent. A licensed US Patent Attorney with at least five years of patent creation experience at a law firm, or a mix of law firm and in-house experience, preferably at a multinational organization.

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details
The pay range for this position in Stamford, CT $209,000 to $333,000.
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives, may be offered. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.

Company relocation benefits will not be provided for this position. For this position, you must reside in or within commuting distance to Stamford, CT.
