Job Summary:

The Journeyman or Apprentice Electrician – Data Center Cooling is a key contributor to the operation and reliability of mission‑critical infrastructure, ensuring continuous uptime of high‑performance cooling systems that support data center environments. This role performs and supports electrical installation, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting across central utility plant systems, including power distribution, motor controls, and integrated control systems tied to chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and heat‑exchange equipment.

Working within a 24/7, high‑availability environment, the Electrician partners closely with mechanical, controls, and operations teams to optimize system performance, reduce downtime, and support commissioning and ongoing plant operations. The position requires strong technical capability, situational awareness, and adherence to strict safety and compliance standards, with a focus on maintaining resilient, efficient, and scalable cooling infrastructure.

To strengthen our talent pipeline, this position is open to both licensed Journeyman Electricians and Apprentice Electricians who are actively progressing toward Journeyman licensure. Nortek DCC will support training, development, and on‑the‑job learning to help qualified Apprentices advance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily coordination of activities within assigned areas of responsibility
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems supporting data center cooling equipment, including chillers, DAHU units, cooling towers, pumps, and heat exchangers
  • Perform, inspect, and troubleshoot electrical installations including conduit, cable trays, power distribution, motor controls, and panel wiring
  • Conduct routine quality inspections of electrical systems
  • Read and interpret drawings including blueprints, single‑line diagrams, schematics, and control drawings
  • Support system commissioning, startup, and functional testing
  • Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable regulations
  • Support implementation of new processes on new and custom‑build products
  • Provide guidance on electrical aspects of new product lines and updates to existing product lines
  • Assist in developing and delivering training to increase product and process knowledge

Position Qualifications

Requirements:


Journeyman Track (Preferred)

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license (state/local requirement)
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent experience
  • 3–7 years of experience in industrial, commercial, or data center environments
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems (low and medium voltage)
  • Experience with motors, control systems, and industrial electrical equipment
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and support commissioning activities


Apprentice Track (Also Considered)

  • Active enrollment in a state‑recognized electrical apprenticeship program
  • Foundational understanding of electrical systems and safety practices
  • Ability to read basic schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving Journeyman licensure
  • Willingness to learn data‑center‑specific systems and controls
  • Ability to work under the guidance of a licensed Journeyman

General Requirements (All Candidates)

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information internally and externally
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a timeline‑driven environment
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/SolidWorks preferred (not required for Apprentice candidates)
  • Demonstrated ability to guide, direct, and provide technical support to the production floor
