About the business/role/team
This role sits within the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Risk and Compliance Department (Line 2) and plays an important role in supporting the Bank’s financial risk management and policy implementation capabilities. The team develops and maintains frameworks that ensure balance sheet risks are well understood, appropriately managed and aligned with the Bank’s policy objectives.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk Frameworks and Strategy, the Lead Analyst will partner with colleagues across Financial Markets, Monetary Policy and other key functions, while engaging with senior governance forums, including executive committees and Boards.
Working at the intersection of financial markets, risk management and public policy, the Lead Analyst will contribute to the safe and effective delivery of central bank operations and the ongoing enhancement of the Bank’s financial risk framework.
About the role
As a Lead Analyst, you will focus on the design, implementation and ongoing enhancement of frameworks that manage financial market risks while supporting broader policy objectives.
This includes responsibility for ensuring these frameworks:
Manage financial market risks in a manner consistent with leading practice across financial institutions; and
Supporting the design of frameworks that influence market functioning, financial stability and the transmission of monetary policy, both under normal conditions and during periods of market stress, including the design and implementation of extraordinary policy measures.
The Lead Analyst role is highly technical and requires deep expertise in macroeconomic policy, financial markets and risk management, combined with a strong understanding of central bank operations.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, governance committees and Boards, you will provide expert analysis and contribute to the ongoing development of the Bank's financial risk management capability. Through your work, you will help strengthen the frameworks that underpin both effective risk management and the delivery of broader policy outcomes.
The Lead Analyst is a senior individual contributor role, operating at a level equivalent to a Risk Manager.
About you
Possess a deep expertise in financial markets, risk management and macroeconomic policy
Experience working in a central bank or similar policy-focused institution
Strong understanding of financial market operations and risk frameworks
Proven ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable insights
Experience working with senior stakeholders, including executive or Board-level governance bodies
Ability to operate effectively in a highly specialised and technically complex environment
An added bonus would be if you have experience in the implementation and management of non-financial risk frameworks, or have also worked in a non-financial risk role in a financial institution.
