Lead Analyst, Spirits Category Management

About the Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Lead Analyst, Spirits Category Management to join our Merchandising team in Bethesda, MD. In this role, you will support the strategic direction and performance of our Spirits business by driving category initiatives and delivering actionable insights that enhance sales, margin, and customer engagement. You will own category review preparation, develop actionable insights, and partner cross-functionally with Merchandising, Marketing, Digital and Supply Chain teams to optimize assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies. You will lead weekly reporting creation and execution, and own allocation strategy of key products. You will report to the Senior Director, Spirits Category Management.

You will

  • Lead analytical initiatives to evaluate category performance, identify sales and margin opportunities, and propose strategies that improve overall business outcomes.
  • Own assigned categories, serving as the primary business lead responsible for category performance reviews, trend analysis, opportunity identification, and development of strategic recommendations to drive growth and profitability.
  • Plan and oversee category review processes, including analysis of item productivity, pricing, and promotional mix, ensuring recommendations align with company goals.
  • Design and implement tools, reports, and workflows that improve efficiency and accuracy in category and assortment planning.
  • Innovate through continuous improvement of data models and reporting methodologies to enhance decision-making and visibility into business performance.
  • Support team with additional projects and strategies as needed, including process improvement and company initiatives.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leaders and stakeholders, providing clear insights that guide short- and long-term category strategies.

You will come with

  • Bachelor's Degree Business, Finance, Analytics, Merchandising, or a related field preferred
  • 3-6 years experience in Category Management, Merchandising, Assortment Planning, or a related analytical role. Retail-based business preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional projects with minimal supervision and deliver actionable recommendations that drive measurable results.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; advanced proficiency in Excel and working knowledge of SQL, Power BI, or similar reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex data into meaningful insights for leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize many assignments simultaneously, consistently working under tight deadlines.
  • Passion for the beverage alcohol industry and a strong understanding of Spirits category trends preferred.
