Lead Carpenter

Scroggs Construction Services is seeking motivated, hands-on Lead Carpenters/Crew Leads to oversee remodeling, addition, restoration, and new home construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive carpentry experience, and a desire to grow within our expanding organization. This is not a desk or supervisory-only role—candidates must be ready and able to physically lead by example in the field. Crew Leaders will be responsible for leading a team consisting of a Carpenter and a Carpenter's Helper, while solving complex construction and remodeling challenges related to all carpentry tasks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise a crew, ensuring all carpentry tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Gather materials for workers to handle on job sites when required.
  • Work closely with project supervisors and coordinate with other trades as needed.
  • Solve complex construction and remodeling issues independently.
  • Oversee job site organization, cleanliness, and equipment servicing.
  • Perform all aspects of carpentry, including rough and finish carpentry, following recognized procedures/techniques required for residential construction.
  • Assist with slabs and elevated structures.
  • Establish reference points and lines.
  • Assist in preparing estimates, reports, and requisitions.
  • Step in for supervisors when required.
  • Mentor and manage crew members' development throughout their tenure.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years in a construction-related crew lead role, with at least two years of finish carpentry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to operate all carpenter tools and equipment.
  • Must have a complete carpentry toolset and be capable of independently performing all construction-related tasks, including but not limited to: demolition, rough and finish carpentry, and concrete work(footings/footers).
  • Ability to read and utilize blueprints to lay out construction, remodeling, and alteration work.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform job duties, including heavy labor with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift, load, and unload heavy construction materials frequently.
  • Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective/safety equipment as necessary.
  • This position requires a significant amount of driving; candidates must possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license and live within 30–45 minutes of Scroggs Construction Services.
  • Trailers and trucks are provided to Crew Leaders.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Pay: $26.00–$35.00/hour, based on experience and skill set.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
