Lead Piping Engineer
Wood Group are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Piping Engineer to join the Integrated Digital Operations team supporting project across the energy sector.
This role will be based within our Hull office, on a hybrid working arrangement with visits to site as required.
The successful candidate will provide expert piping engineering support, contribute to the success of the project, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the energy sector.

The Role
As a Lead Piping Engineer, you will take ownership of complex engineering assignments, often involving the development of innovative or enhanced products, processes, and techniques. You will evaluate the feasibility and integrity of proposed designs, equipment, and systems, applying your advanced technical expertise to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. Working with minimal supervision, you will be responsible for producing key engineering deliverables and resolving complex technical challenges across a range of projects.
In this role, The Lead Engineer will provide specialist expertise while guiding and reviewing the work of highly skilled engineering teams. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring technical excellence, offering critical reviews on complex projects and contributing to strategic decision-making.
In consulting environments, you may also manage a portfolio of projects, maintain client relationships and oversee project performance, including cost, schedule, resource allocation, and risk management.

The key objectives for this role are:
- Lead a team of piping and stress engineers and designers, managing scope, change control, budget, and schedule
- Provide engineering expertise and contribute to the development of studies
- Originate, check, and approve piping deliverables for both engineering and design.
- Delegate approval for piping engineering & design deliverables
- Competence evaluation and development planning for team
- succession and resource forecasting, identification of new recruitment needs
- Support the Engineering Manager, Project Manager, and delivery team with technical expertise
- Resolve engineering issues in adherence to principles, codes, and standards
- Ensure technical integrity of designs by following procedures
- Support interdisciplinary considerations through design reviews and checks
- Achieve safety standards, assess working practices, and drive continuous improvement
- Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and quality systems
- Ensure compliance of designs with relevant procedures, standards, and regulations
- Manage assigned work within budget and schedule
- Prepare estimates and schedules and participate in reviews
- Maintain effective communication with clients and visit onshore & offshore assets as necessary

Expected:
- Bachelor’s degree/HNC or equivalent with experience in piping engineering discipline
- Demonstrable experience leading, coordinating and managing a piping engineering team
- Experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise
- Experience on gas processing terminals preferred, but not essential
- Highly experienced in onshore site surveys and data gathering on brownfield projects
- Experienced in the use of design and assessment methods used within discipline
- Competent in use of analytical methods used within discipline including theoretical background for analysis programs
- Aware of commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering
- Able to work with other disciplines and draughting sections to meet delivery dates
- Experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work
- Competent in design safety / environmental requirements and procedures
