Position: Lead System Engineer

Job Location: 1730 N. First Street, San Jose, CA 95112

Duties: Develop and design Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning technologies and solutions including AI models for running on Sony compatible/competitor’s edge devices. Optimize production AI models used by enterprise customers and partners to fit into Sony compatible/competitor’s edge devices. Evaluate the AI model using the test images and the accuracy of the entire system after deploying it to devices and develop the evaluation method. Collect annotated datasets for training AI models using tools or service companies. Collaborate with open-source communities and internal/external platform teams to build a cohesive MLOps experience. Design and develop the pipeline including pre-processing and post-processing for the AI model in order to maximize the performance of the entire system. Apply breadth of experience in machine learning systems, engineering expertise, creative problem solving, and develop and demonstrate solutions that meet challenging requirements. Work in collaboration with team to architect solutions, develop algorithms, and demonstrate working solutions in product intent, embedded systems. Communicate closely with the development team and gain a deep understanding of the Sony compatible devices. Provide technical support for the development and evaluation of technologies suitable for our devices with partner companies. Understand and support customer use about model conversion, from common ML framework to our edge AI processor, toolchain and pipeline. Provide feedback on technical issues and customers’ voice to the relevant members in the team to have them reflected on the development plans and improve our products. Search for companies with technology that could improve our product and evaluate their technology. Lead and work collaboratively with engineering, marketing and other teams to guide the products toward launch, taking into consideration Sony’ strategy and objectives. Develop solutions to problems by collaborating as needed across regions, product areas, and functions. Identify and lead exploratory discussions with potential partners across industries. Evaluate and quantify opportunities and present recommendations to internal leaders. Understand the contents of our products, in detail and provide technical support/guidance/advice to customers. Provide technical contributions and leadership as senior individual contributor or small team leader to edge machine vision / computer vision projects.

Minimum education and experience required: Master’s degree or the equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus 1 year of experience in firmware development, applications development, or related experience.

Skills required: Must have experience with: IoT system Architecture; network protocols; Hardware Abstraction Layer development; Edge Vision AI; Computer Vision; Low Level Programming (C/C++); Object Oriented Programming (C++/Python); System Design and Architecture; Firmware/Embedded Engineering; Sensor Driver Development; Image Sensor Fundamentals; Machine Learning / AI Fundamentals; Electrical Design Review / Schematic Review (Electrical Engineering Design); Designing and implementing On-Premise Data Ingestion, Storage and Forwarding. Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.

The base pay range for this position is $131,560 to 193,596. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for a bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), paid medical leave after three months of employment, a 401k plan with matching company contributions, vacation time, education assistance, student loan assistance program, eighty hours of paid sick leave time annually, and up to twelve weeks paid parental leave after six months of employment.
