Get to Know the Role
As the Lead Technical Program Manager, you will manage a variety of complex, cross-functional programs and lead all aspects of assigned program delivery. Get a taste of how Grab really works, behind the scenes. You will create and maintain the delivery roadmap for the teams you work with, along with the respective Tech and Product Leaders. You will also get to define the way of driving these programs and always find ways of improving this process in a data-driven manner.
You will report to a Senior Technical Program Management Leader, and will be based onsite in our Petaling Jaya office.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
1. The "Builder Mentality" (Core Mindset)
The successful candidate must embody a "builder mentality," which we define as:
- Ownership: You don't wait for directives; you identify gaps in dependencies, communication, or process and create the structure to bridge them.
- Execution over Internal Dynamics: In complex, multi-stakeholder environments, you prioritize tangible outcomes and efficient execution over navigating office dynamics.
- Driving Momentum: You are an engine for progress. Ambiguity and move projects forward even when initial requirements are undefined or imperfect.
- Systematic Execution: You build repeatable, scalable execution systems rather than relying on "heroics" to get things over the line.
2. Key Responsibilities (Critical Tasks)
- Program Leadership: Drive the delivery of key initiatives by leading roadmap planning and prioritization discussions with cross-functional leaders.
- Technical Facilitation: Lead technical whiteboard sessions to troubleshoot project implementation details, remove blockers, and provide strategic input on complex issues impacting tech and non-tech teams.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Manage communications across teams to align non-tech and tech stakeholder needs, tracking and reporting progress against milestones.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and implement improvements in team and organizational delivery practices; drive the adoption of best practices to enhance responsiveness.
- Strategy: Develop long-term planning frameworks and roadmaps aligned with broader strategic goals.
3. Nice-to-Haves (Preferred Skills)
- Certifications: PMP or Scrum Master certification.
- Culture: Alignment with Grab's principles (Heart, Hunger, Honour, Humility).
- Experience: 12+ years of hands-on experience in Technical Program Management, PMO leadership, or similar roles in tech or tech-adjacent domains.
- Portfolio Management: Proven track record in managing complex, cross-functional portfolios and end-to-end program delivery, including ownership of large, cross-organizational programs.
- Technical Literacy: Solid understanding of software development processes and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Frameworks: Strong experience in applying Agile frameworks to guide teams and establishing/evolving program management frameworks using a data-driven approach.
- Risk & Judgment: Proven ability to identify, mitigate, and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle and making cross-group decisions backed by business and technical insights.
- Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to align objectives and manage executive-level escalations.
- Tools: Proficiency with JIRA and Confluence to streamline project workflows and tracking.
