Legal Counsel (Contracts)

We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Counsel to support and scale Sumsub’s Contracts Team growth.

This individual contributor role will focus on managing complex contractual matters, resolving high-impact legal issues, and driving continuous process improvement across the Contacts Team.

The position offers the opportunity to make a strategic impact by ensuring excellence and efficiency in Sumsub’s legal operations.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Designing, implementing, and refining contract management processes, including the introduction of automation tools and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency.

  • Leading the end-to-end delivery of legal projects, proactively engaging with various stakeholders to align interests and secure necessary approvals across the business.

  • Leading the review, drafting, and negotiation of complex and high-value commercial contracts, including service, partnership, vendor agreements and NDAs governed under English law, with additional exposure to other common law and civil law jurisdictions.

  • Providing strategic guidance and risk-based assessment of contractual terms to support business goals while maintaining compliance and risk control.

  • Supporting and advising cross-functional teams (Sales, Customer Operations, Product, Finance, etc.) on complex contract-related matters and streamlining internal approval workflows.

  • Support our Contracts team (a part of Legal dep.) on strategic initiatives, including process optimization, policy updates, and scaling of legal operations.

About You:
Must have

  • University degree in law (LL.B., preferably LL.M.)

  • 6+ years of experience as a Legal Counsel or Senior Counsel, ideally in an international tech environment

  • Proven experience of managing legal projects and navigating diverse stakeholder groups to drive consensus and project completion.

  • Extensive experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements governed primarily by English law, as well as by other common law and civil law jurisdictions.

  • Proven experience with legal process improvement and contract lifecycle management tools

  • Proactive approach and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Solid understanding of data protection and privacy laws, including GDPR and other major regulatory frameworks

Nice to have

  • Experience in IT, fintech, or regtech companies.

  • Familiarity with AML/KYC and other compliance-related principles.
