LIVESTRONG Instructor
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
A cancer diagnosis can impact a person’s entire wellbeing. As former graduates of the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program will tell you, “It’s not just an exercise program.” The role of a LIVESTRONG Instructor requires a special set of skills including leadership, compassion, courage, and the ability to listen. This 12-week evidence-based program will challenge the participants and you as an instructor to grow. A strong exercise background, commitment to continuing education, and ability to connect with participants will all be success measures for you as a LIVESTRONG Instructor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate written and functional assessments of participants following curriculum protocol.
- Demonstrate a high level of knowledge regarding exercise prescription programming for cancer survivors.
- Determines starting reps, sets, weight, duration, and if any modifications/adaptations may be needed to the exercise or equipment.
- Teaches and demonstrates utilization of equipment, correct exercise technique and safety considerations.
- Communicates with supervisor, staff, participants, members, volunteers and guests in a clear, concise, and positive manner while using Listen First skills.
- Acts as a positive role model while following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
- Maintain LIVESTRONG certification requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the LIVESTRONG Coordinator.
