M&E Completion Inspector (HVDC)

M&E Completion Inspector (HVDC)

Role Overview

The HVDC M&E Completion Inspector is responsible for the technical assurance of converter station components. This role involves the meticulous inspection stating from Equipment receiving inspection to MC of high-power electronics, mechanical sophisticated cooling systems, and critical control/protection infrastructure, ensuring the plant is ready for high voltage energization and long-term reliable operation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Converter Valve & Electronics Inspection: Oversee the installation and mechanical
  • integrity of converter valves, including optical fiber connectivity, cooling pipe integrity and high-voltage insulation/clearance verification.
  • Complex Cooling Systems: Inspect high-precision cooling systems (deionized water or oil-based) for converter valves and transformers, ensuring leak-free performance and proper flow calibration.
  • Advanced Control & Protection (C&P): Verify the physical installation of C&P cabinets, high-speed signal cabling, and fiber-optic backbone communication lines that are critical to HVDC system stability.
  • Auxiliary Systems: Monitor the completion of complex auxiliary power systems, including station service transformers, harmonic filters, and neutral bus structures.
  • High-Voltage Testing Support: Assist in the staging and witnessing of high-voltage testing, including DC withstand tests, valve-level insulation testing, and operational sequence tests.
  • HVDC-Specific Quality Assurance: Manage the strict cleanliness and environmental controls (e.g., humidity, dust) required for HVDC valve halls, ensuring all "clean room" protocols are met during the completion phase.

Mechanical Completion (MC) Verification

  • Participate in Mechanical Completion walkdowns and system inspections.
  • Verify all construction inspection activities are completed and documented.
  • Confirm punch list categorization, closure status, and readiness for pre-commissioning.
  • Ensure as-built documentation and quality dossiers are available and complete.

Quality Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete inspection records, checklists, and test reports accurately and in a timely manner and record in the PIMS completion system
  • Maintain inspection and documentation.
  • Track punch items, deficiencies, and corrective actions through closure.
  • Support preparation of Mechanical Completion Certificates (MCC).

Technical Requirements

  • HVDC Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of HVDC system architecture (e.g., VSC or LCC technology) is advantageous but not absolutely necessary.
  • Proven experience with delicate optical fiber termination and the specific grounding/shielding requirements for HVDC noise-sensitive environments.
  • Experience with industrial heat-exchanger systems, deionized water chemistry, or large-scale cooling loops.
  • Ability to manage high volumes of technical documentation, including software-to-hardware mapping, signal list verification, and fiber-optic attenuation reports.
  • Safety Rigor: Comprehensive knowledge of safety protocols for HV stations, specifically concerning stored energy hazards, high voltage switching, and specialized clearance zones.
  • Certifications: Completion Management System (CMS) and related software training (preferably PIMS)
