Role Purpose

This role focuses on designing, implementing, and governing Microsoft Purview capabilities across Microsoft 365 and Azure to protect sensitive data, ensure regulatory compliance, and enable secure collaboration. This role acts as the subjectmatter expert for information protection, data loss prevention, records management, and compliance solutions, ensuring alignment with Zero Trust and enterprise data governance strategies.

The role partners closely with Security, Legal, Compliance, IT, and business stakeholders to translate regulatory and data protection requirements into scalable, technically sound Purview architectures. This position plays a critical role in protecting organizational data while enabling productivity and trusted use of Microsoft 365 services.

Responsibilities

Purview Architecture & Design

  • You will design and maintain the endtoend Microsoft Purview architecture across Microsoft 365 workloads including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Power Platform.

  • You will define and implement data classification, labeling, and protection strategies using sensitivity labels and information protection policies.

  • You will design enterprisewide data loss prevention (DLP) policies aligned with business risk, regulatory obligations, and user experience considerations.

  • You will architect records management and retention solutions, including retention labels, policies, and disposition workflows.

Governance, Compliance & Risk

  • You will translate regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements into enforceable Purview controls and configurations.

  • You will ensure alignment between Purview solutions and Zero Trust data security principles.

  • You will partner with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to support eDiscovery, audit readiness, and regulatory investigations.

  • You will define data governance standards, operating models, and control frameworks related to information protection and lifecycle management.

Implementation & Optimization

  • You will lead and guide the implementation of Purview capabilities, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability.

  • You will assess and continuously improve data protection posture through policy tuning, reporting, and analytics.

  • You will integrate Purview with identity, endpoint, and security platforms such as Entra ID, Defender, and Sentinel where applicable.

  • You will support Microsoft Copilot readiness by ensuring data classification, labeling, and access controls are correctly implemented.

Collaboration & Enablement

  • You will collaborate with security engineers, M365 administrators, and application owners to embed Purview controls into business solutions.

  • You will provide architectural guidance, standards, and patterns for teams implementing Microsoft 365 workloads.

  • You will communicate complex data protection concepts clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • You will produce architecture documentation, design standards, and operational guidance to support adoption and auditability.

Skills

Required

  • You should have 5+ years of experience in information protection, data governance, or security architecture roles within enterprise environments.

  • You should have deep handson experience with Microsoft Purview, including Information Protection, DLP, Records Management, eDiscovery, and Compliance Manager.

  • You should have strong experience designing and implementing sensitivity labels, retention policies, and DLP policies across Microsoft 365 services.

  • You should have a solid understanding of data lifecycle management, privacy, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • You should have experience integrating Purview with Microsoft 365 workloads such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Exchange, and Power Platform.

  • You should have strong knowledge of identity and access controls, including Entra ID and rolebased access models.

  • You should have experience working in regulated environments such as financial services, healthcare, or similarly controlled industries.

  • You should have strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • You should have fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Experience

  • You should have experience aligning Purview solutions with Zero Trust security strategies.

  • You should have experience supporting Microsoft Copilot governance and data readiness initiatives.

  • You should have familiarity with Microsoft Defender and Sentinel integrations for data protection monitoring and alerting.

  • You should have experience supporting audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance assessments.

  • You should have experience defining operating models and RACI for data protection and compliance controls.

  • You should have familiarity with international data protection regulations such as GDPR, SOX, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks.

  • You should have relevant Microsoft certifications such as SC400, SC100, or other security and compliance certifications.
