The Turboexpander Machine Design Engineer is a pivotal technical role within the Air Liquide Engineering & Construction Turbo division, dedicated to driving the design, development, and optimization of critical rotating equipment. The successful candidate ensures all technical deliverables meet or exceed global, local, and strict industry safety and engineering standards. This position demands a strong ability to translate complex customer specifications into highly efficient aerodynamic and mechanical realities while actively participating in global and local product development efforts. As a continuous improvement advocate, the engineer captures and implements design lessons learned from field commissioning data, design reviews, and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) to push the boundaries of turboexpander performance.

Job Responsibilities:

The design, development, and optimization of critical rotating equipment. The successful candidate ensures all technical deliverables meet or exceed global, local, and strict industry safety and engineering standards. This position demands a strong ability to translate complex customer specifications into highly efficient aerodynamic and mechanical realities while actively participating in global and local product development efforts. As a continuous improvement advocate, the engineer captures and implements design lessons learned from field commissioning data, design reviews, and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) to push the boundaries of turboexpander performance.

  • Conducting and refining detailed turbo-expander machine and component designs.

  • Creating turbomachine layouts with 3D models, detailed drawings, and bills of materials in a timely manner to support production schedules

  • Developing new turbomachinery products.

  • Supporting manufacturing/production/quality and procurement departments on nonconforming issues of parts and machine components.

  • Analyzing field issues/problems and troubleshooting and providing recommendations/solutions.

  • Perform any other duties/tasks/projects as assigned by the manager.

  • Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for field and manufacturing non-conformances.

  • Act as the technical liaison for the Procurement team to identify, develop, and technical-audit casting, forging and machining suppliers, ensuring vendor capabilities meet demanding design, quality, and production schedules.

Are you a MATCH?

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering required.

  • Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.

  • 3–5+ years of progressive experience in turbomachinery design, rotating equipment, or precision manufacturing environment

  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling's in Solid works.

  • Familiar with GD&;T standard and stack-ups

  • Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills

  • Must be a self-starting and motivating individualProficient in Finite Element Analysis, prefer Ansys

  • Knowledge of current ASME standards and codes

  • Knowledge of machining practices, mills, lathes and drilling.

  • Knowledge of turbomachinery and rotating element design

  • Knowledge of Aerodynamics pertaining to radial turbines.

  • Knowledge of Rotor dynamics and Modal Analysis

  • Knowledge of cryogenic and advanced materials

The annual base salary range for this position in California is $95,000 - $105,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Air Liquide considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
