General Function:

To represent the MVYMCA personally and professionally in a manner in accordance with the mission and cares of the Y. Under the direction of the Maintenance Director, the maintenance staff will oversee the proper maintenance of Camp Lawrence. Will assume the assist in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the maintenance and janitorial operations of the camp and grounds. Included within those general guidelines are training, and supervision of staff, related to the maintenance and janitorial operations.

General Job Responsibilities:

  • Keep safety as a first priority. Emphasize personal safety and emotional well-being with staff, volunteers, members and program participants.
  • Communicate facility related information, problems and concerns as they occur.
  • Be aware of Facility Department responsibilities as outlined in Camp Emergency procedures.
  • Maintain a neat and organized work area to maximize efficiency and workload.
  • Report all accidents/unusual incidents immediately and assist with necessary documentation.
  • Shall serve as a primary staff resource in the area of safety and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment and operational logs as required. Establish working relationships with all suppliers and vendors to ensure a quick response in emergency situations.
  • Mechanical breakdown will be addressed within 24 hours and repairs commenced within 48 hours.
  • Safety repairs will be priority and be addressed the same day.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain adequate staffing or contract services to keep the camp in a clean/safe condition at all times.
  • Seasonal opening and closing of camp as needed to insure safe and secure management of all camp assets.
  • Compile and maintain adequate records on all equipment, procedures and schedules in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Monitor and test water systems and wells according to the guidelines set by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services.
  • Responsible for ordering and controlling all maintenance and housekeeping supplies not under the jurisdiction of an independent contractor.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance program to obtain maximum efficiency and lowest cost in the operation and replacement of buildings and equipment.
  • Responsible for fire safety training for staff and the maintenance and monitoring of all fire suppression equipment.
  • Motor Boat transportation responsibilities as outlined and directed by the Camp Executive Director.
  • Maintain camp and equipment to American Camp Association standards.
  • Monitor, test and service wells and lagoons as directed by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental services.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating and provide necessary instructions to campers
  • Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity
  • Ability to manage groups of children in the outdoors

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
