About the role:
Our dedicated Maintenance team are the behind-the-scenes gurus who keep our fleet of 21 vessels in top operating order and get them back on the water if something arises.
The successful applicant in this role will hold a relevant Marine Engineer/Diesel Engineer/ Mechanical qualification for at least 5 years and be experienced in marine engineering, diesel engine rectification, fault finding and associated components including anchors, propellors, and marine systems. They will have a thorough working knowledge of diesel engines including modern common rail fuel injection systems and the associated control systems. As a qualified Engineer we expect the applicant to be knowledgeable and experienced in the repair and maintenance of vessel engines, generators and marine vessel systems.
A comprehensive approach to diagnosing faults using traditional and computer-based methods is essential as is the willingness to sometimes work under time pressures therefore accurate task methodology is important.
As a 7 day per week operation, this role will incorporate an on-call period where the successful applicant will be required to be part of the on call roster approximately 7 weeks per year.
Key duties
Rectification and preventative maintenance of engines, associated components, pumps, fuel systems hydraulic equipment, anchor systems and vessel operating systems.
Urgent maintenance of 'in service' vessels including mitigating major machinery faults and vessel critical systems.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough working knowledge of medium-high speed diesel engines; pumping systems including fuel, sea water, fresh water, bilge, grey and black water; marine propulsion including gearboxes, propellers and shafts, hydraulics, anchor systems, toilet systems and ventilation. A comprehensive approach to diagnosing faults within these systems is essential.
Skills and Experience
5 years engineering experience and hold at least one of the following:
- Trade qualification in fitting, turning and machining
- Marine Engineering Class 3 or higher qualification
- Diesel mechanic qualification
Previous experience in the marine industry desired;
You’ll also be able to work autonomously and within a team environment.
