Maintenance Mechanic

About the Position: This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and building materials in various trades such as carpentry, painting, sheet metal, roofing, masonry and tile setting. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Operate a wide variety of powered equipment and hand tools.

Assemble items with a variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, and mortise and tenon.

Use wood, metal, and various composite materials when installing or replacing interior partitions, flooring, panels, suspended ceilings, counter tops, and moldings.

Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the layout and work sequences and material requirements.

Apply coating materials with any of the accepted trade devices including those designed to give special effects such as brushes, rollers, and spray guns.

Prepare surfaces by methods such as smoothing with abrasive compounds, pumice and sandpaper, filling, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds.
