Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor

This position is Maintenance Supervisor of the Mechanical Unit of Engineering Services and is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the complete plumbing/pipefitting/air conditioning and refrigeration systems of this Medical Center.

Duties Major duties include but are not limited to; Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trades within Facilities Management Service (i.e. Maintenance Mechanic, HVAC equipment mechanic, pipefitter, electrician, and carpenter) Supervises maintenance mechanics, maintenance workers, locksmith and other assigned trades Instructs the craftsmen in the proper methods of performing their duties and reviews and approves their work performed to include observance of all regulations on the assigned trade work, conduct, and safety with particular emphasis placed on the correct procedures to follow when working in sensitive areas; Prioritizing all assigned routine and emergency work orders for the daily shift, assigning preventive maintenance based on computer generated preventive schedules and other routine duties. Establish policies and procedures in relationship to maintenance operations. Establishing priority according to the availability of manpower, materials, equipment and the nature of the situation. Planning of work orders daily, in house projects weekly, reviewing designs and project inspections monthly Assists in planning of budgets and construction projects Effectively manage an annual budget of approximately $1,000,000. Prepares and submits to his/her supervisor monthly progress reports for the unit Plans and literature pertaining to installation, materials and/or equipment that is part of projects Utilizes background of skills and knowledge in mechanical trades to develop work standards and procedures. Visits the job locations daily to make certain that all work and safety regulations meet the standards set forth by the Government and the Medical Center Keeps a daily record of the location of work, number of employees and trades, number of hours worked, type of work being accomplished and comments concerning any deviations from the specifications or contract Responsible to coordinate his/her work with all Care/Service Line areas of the Medical Center and outside service companies. Schedule repairs and downtime appropriately to minimize Medical Center operation disruption. Responsibilities of this position are 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He/she is expected to work irregular hours and respond to emergency calls at any hour, day or night. Coordinates work with utility companies (sewer and water), plans for emergency shutdowns when the services are at a minimum. Assess and schedule training needs for all maintenance staff. Spot check and inspect maintenance and repair work to ensure quality. Ensures the Preventive Maintenance program is coordinated and completed on schedule. Ensures compliance with numerous hospital accreditation requirements. Ensures staff understand the proper and economical use of tools, equipment, and materials.
