Maintence Mechanic

Position Summary

The maintenance mechanic repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments. The Maintenance Mechanic is expected to be a multi skilled in the areas of Industrial Maintenance including but not limited to; Pump repair, Welding, basic Electricity and pipefitting. As a function of this position, the Maintenance Mechanic may be involved with the generation, collection, storage, and preparation of shipments of hazardous waste. Specific expertise in pump maintenance and alignment using precision tools desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must also have 3-5 years of applicable maintenance experience in a manufacturing process plant environment, preferably Chemical or Petro Chemical.

  • Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of plant wide equipment.

  • Maintaining and achieving safety and environmental regulations during maintenance activities with compliance to all regulatory permits.

  • Reading Standard Operating Procedures to ascertain job scope, tools, permits required to complete tasks.

  • Responding to verbal, written, or electronic instructions from Supervisor and/or Maintenance Planner/Scheduler.

  • Patrolling the production areas, inspecting equipment for potential and actual hazards, wear, leaks, and other conditions requiring maintenance or shut down.

  • Maintaining work areas to acceptable standards of housekeeping and sanitation.

  • Effectively interacting with other employees in a team environment.

  • Conducting and documenting as required, inspections on safety equipment, process equipment, and forklifts.

  • Participating in safety processes as well as various special committees or teams to ensure continued safe and efficient operation.

  • Working with Compliance Wire and Training Committee to ensure all personal training requirements are met.

  • Obtaining safework permits as required for maintenance or project work.

  • Effectively communicating with outside contractors and vendors as required.

  • Communicating with scheduling, production, and other areas or departments in the absence of the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler.

  • Managing workload to meet established deadlines and Standard Operating Procedure requirements.

  • Working with area operations employees to determine daily maintenance work requirements.

  • Working with Maintenance Planner/Scheduler to ensure completion of planned workload.

  • Entering individual time into Workday on a regular weekly basis.

  • Working with Technical Groups as required to meet project needs.

  • Collecting Hazardous waste in jars, pails, drums, totes, or tank wagons, and labeling and storing them in designated areas.

  • Recommending new, or changes to existing Preventive Maintenance Work Orders, to improve equipment up time.

  • Working overtime or call-ins as required to minimize equipment downtime.

  • Cleaning up spills and recognizing if a material is a potential hazardous waste and contacting EH&S with the information needed to make this determination.

  • Performing other duties assigned as required and/or assigned.

  • Contributing and adhering to safety, environmental, quality and EEO/Diversity standards of the Corporation, Division and location.

Education & Experience

  • Education: This position requires the equivalent of a High School education. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical related field is required.

  • Experience: The Maintenance Mechanic is expected to be a multi skilled in areas of Industrial Maintenance including but not limited to; Pump repair, Welding, basic Electricity and pipefitting.

Knowledge, Skills, & Talents

  • Safety Awareness: Being aware of conditions that affect employee safety.

  • Basic Equipment Repair: Ability to diagnose common equipment problems and evaluate level of skill needed to repair. Able to complete simple repairs.

  • Knowing Tools and Equipment Used in Repair: Ability to select and use the proper tools and equipment to complete repair. Knowledge of the proper care, storage requirements and expected life of these tools and equipment.

  • Mechanical Inspection Testing Practices, Procedures, and Testing Results: Knowledge of the requirements for vessel and piping inspections as they pertain to OSHA, ANSI 31.3, NBIC, TEMA and ASME Section VIII. Basic knowledge of corporate procedures as it pertains to mechanical inspections and testing to include frequency, type of inspection, and special requirements. The ability to analyze the results of these inspections and make recommendations as a result of the findings per the corporate and site.

  • Proficiency with Equipment/Mechanical Skills: Familiar with the basic operation of the department's equipment. The ability to diagnose common equipment problems, evaluate the level of skill needed to repair, and to complete simple repairs.

  • Rotating Equipment Repair: Knowledge of rotating equipment component function. Knowledge of methods of condition monitoring of rotating equipment. Ability to evaluate and specify different methods of repair. Ability to evaluate economic feasibility of repair or replacement.

  • Stationary Equipment Repair: Knowledge of Corporate Technical Specifications, and the Site and Unit specific specifications for process equipment. Knowledge of ASME, API and other standard codes of construction and repair. Ability to apply code interpretations to facilitate vessel repairs.

  • Preventative Maintenance Program: Understanding of the predictive and preventive maintenance process. Knowledge of all aspects of the unit's preventative maintenance program.

  • Communication: Expressing ideas effectively in individual and group situations (including nonverbal communication); adjusting language or terminology to the characteristics and needs of the audience.

  • Follow-Up: Establishing procedures to monitor the results of delegations, assignments, or projects; taking into consideration the skill, knowledge, and experience of the assigned individual and characteristics of the assignment or project.

Working Conditions

Working environment is both indoors and outdoors with respect to specific maintenance duties.

Pay

The estimated pay starts at $25/hr. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, qualifications, skills and geographic location. This position is eligible to participate in a short-term incentive program.
