Role Overview

The Manager is responsible for overseeing a team or group, ensuring the successful performance and timely delivery of project deliverables with high quality. This includes managing direct reports, supporting their development, and ensuring client projects are resourced with appropriately skilled professionals.

The Manager is also responsible for retaining and developing talent within Parexel. In addition, they may contribute as a project team member, ensuring the successful delivery of their own assigned deliverables.

The role involves supporting business growth by participating in project bids and client presentations, as appropriate, and providing clinical consultation to project teams when needed. The Manager works independently under the supervision of a Senior Manager, Associate Director, or Director.

Key Accountabilities

Project Delivery Management and Oversight

  • Monitor team performance through close interaction with project and functional leadership, ensuring all project documentation and correspondence are accurate and complete.
  • Act as a project team member when required, contributing as a senior-level resource and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.
  • Prepare study-specific status reports for study teams, sponsors, and management, and attend project meetings as required.
  • Provide consultation, facilitate metrics collection, and develop action plans in collaboration with management and project leadership to ensure projects remain on time and within budget.
  • Manage team activities, including resource allocation, staff assignments, quality control, and delivery efficiency.
  • Develop accurate resourcing plans with project team members, ensuring appropriate resource identification, assignment, and ongoing monitoring of resource needs.
  • Act as a liaison between the project team, sponsors, and management regarding the performance of direct reports.

Performance Management, Staff Development, and Talent Management

  • Provide technical guidance to ensure staff have the knowledge required to perform their roles effectively.
  • Ensure direct reports meet productivity and quality metrics through efficient execution of project plans and regular quality checks (e.g., on-site visits, central file documentation).
  • Drive high performance by recruiting, retaining, and developing a skilled and motivated team.
  • Manage and develop staff through training, mentoring, and appropriate task allocation aligned with their capabilities.
  • Support staff in improving efficiency, prioritization, and overall performance, as evidenced by deliverables, client feedback, audit results, and QC metrics.
  • Participate in formal performance and compensation review processes in line with corporate standards and timelines.

Client Management and Business Development

  • Support business development efforts, including client networking and public speaking, where appropriate.
  • Contribute to project bids and client presentations as required.
  • Coordinate client or account activities for the department or function when applicable.
  • Act on feedback received from client technical teams to drive continuous improvement.

General Operations and Functional/Business Unit Management

  • Contribute to and champion the implementation of organizational and departmental process improvements.
  • Maintain agreed levels of productivity, billability, and staff retention.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities (e.g., timesheets, training, travel expenses) in a timely manner and travel as required.
  • Foster a positive, results-oriented work environment by promoting teamwork, open communication, and collaboration.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable ICH Guidelines, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory requirements, Parexel SOPs, and sponsor SOPs where applicable.

General Administration, Personal Development, and Role Modeling

  • Manage employees across multiple disciplines when required (e.g., in smaller regions) and act as a role model within the organization.
  • Demonstrate leadership by actively participating in departmental, functional, and organizational activities (e.g., management meetings).
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policies and escalate matters to senior management as appropriate.

Skills

  • Proven ability to manage, mentor, and motivate direct reports.

Language Skills

  • Proficiency in the local language and written English.
  • Oral English proficiency is preferred.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Significant experience in clinical monitoring, data management, or related clinical research roles.
  • Strong understanding of the clinical trials environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., biological sciences, pharmacy, or other health-related discipline) preferred, or equivalent nursing qualification or relevant clinical experience.
