Manager-Controller

The Global Treasury Controllership (GTC) team is part of Regulatory Reporting and Treasury Controllership Team and is responsible for providing comprehensive Treasury and regulatory reporting support covering all Treasury transactions, including cash, debt, equity, derivative, and investments.


Treasury Reporting COE is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of all the SEC, FED and LE reporting deliverables for various Treasury Products; Debt, Investments, Derivatives and AOCI.

This is an exciting opportunity to establish and lead the SEC and FED reporting for American Express. The position will involve close interactions with a diverse stakeholder group on Treasury products including conclusions on accounting and reporting implications and daily monitoring of results owing to AXP’s category change.

  • Timely and accurate delivery of financial statements forming part of SEC filings (10-K/Q)/Annual Report and FED reports (Y9C, Y9LP, Y15, 2052a, 009 etc.) relating to treasury products for AXP and its various subsidiaries.
  • Perform and review detailed variance analysis to explain business drivers, portfolio movements, and market impacts, providing meaningful insights to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with Global Treasury, Reporting, GAPA, Technology and Legal Entity Controllers to ensure accurate reporting outcomes and effective resolution of reporting issues.
  • Monitor reporting impacts arising from new transactions, business initiatives, accounting developments, and regulatory changes, and support the assessment of associated reporting implications.

  • Support strategic initiatives, system implementations, and enterprise transformation projects impacting Treasury reporting and controllership functions.

  • Build/perform/review controls to ensure compliance with SOX, SEC, Bank Holding Company regulations and numerous internal guidelines.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate reporting processes through the use of technology, data analytics, and process re-engineering.

  • Continuously challenge the status quo and proactively identify opportunities to enhance reporting quality, operational efficiency, controls, and stakeholder value.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • CA/CPA or equivalent with 6-8 years of experience in finance and reporting.
  • Prior experience in SEC/BHC reporting and knowledge of capital markets will be a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize, drive projects and define medium to long term vision for the team focusing on value creation for partners and the organization.
  • A self-starter, with a proactive approach and a passion to consistently deliver high quality service and exceed expectations. A quick learner with outstanding problem-solving skills. Technical Skills/Capabilities:

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Oracle, Essbase, BIEE, Workiva, TMS, or similar reporting platforms.
  • Knowledge/experience related to using various analytical tools such as Power BI/Python is a plus
