Manager, Expenditures Accounting (Sales & Marketing, CPX)
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
Netflix is growing — and so is the complexity of our accounting landscape. Our Consumer Products business is scaling rapidly, bringing the Netflix brand to life through merchandise and immersive in-person experiences, including Netflix House. Our advertising business is expanding, adding layers of operational and financial complexity. And global marketing efforts are increasing in scale and creativity, introducing new problems to solve and opportunities to innovate. The infrastructure to support all of this is being built in real time, and the financial, operational, and technical challenges ahead have never been more exciting. If you want to build something rather than simply maintain it, this role is for you.
This position sits within the Core Accounting organization on the Expenditures Accounting team and owns the financial integrity of operating expenses across Sales & Marketing and Consumer Products. You will lead a talented team of senior accountants, serve as a trusted partner to some of Netflix's most forward-looking business areas, and help shape how we account for an increasingly dynamic and growing set of operations.
This role is based in either our Los Angeles or Los Gatos office and reports to the Senior Manager, Expenditures Accounting. We operate on a hybrid schedule, with in‑office days Tuesday through Thursday.
Responsibilities
Lead, develop, and mentor a team of senior accountants — investing in their growth paths, building a high-performance environment that is challenging, exciting, and genuinely fun, and maintaining the talent density that makes the company exceptional.
Own the accounting for Sales & Marketing and Consumer Products operating expenses, assets (e.g., prepaids), and liabilities (e.g., accruals), ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP and internal policy.
Drive a timely, accurate, and increasingly frictionless close process — including review of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, flux analyses, and management reporting — with a continuous eye toward automating and eliminating unnecessary manual work.
Model and champion the use of AI and automation across your team's workflows — actively leveraging tools for contract terms extraction, variance analysis, close preparation, and beyond; identifying and scaling solutions that eliminate manual effort; and partnering with Fintech teams to build durable infrastructure for your areas of ownership.
Review and interpret business agreements — including vendor contracts, sponsorships, and brand partnership arrangements — to determine appropriate GAAP treatment
Establish accounting policy and frameworks for new and growing areas, including live events, in-person consumer experiences, and advertising operations
Act as a proactive, solutions-oriented partner to Marketing, Consumer Products, Ads, Legal, Procurement, FP&A, and Tax teams — helping the business move faster and allocate resources wisely
Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external audit inquiries related to your areas of ownership.
Qualifications
8+ years of relevant experience in accounting and/or finance, with a bachelor's degree in a related field.
CPA or equivalent professional designation strongly preferred.
Demonstrated people leadership: you’ve played a key role in hiring, mentoring, and developing others, and you care about building careers, not just getting work done.
Proven track record of building, scaling and simplifying accounting processes, including rethinking legacy workflows to make them faster, more automated and more resilient.
Hands on experience with complex, judgemental accounting, including translating deals into clear, supportable GAAP conclusions
Exceptional communicator who builds trust and alignment across accounting and business partners and is comfortable giving and receiving direct, candid feedback.
Thrives in ambiguity and performs well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with multiple concurrent priorities
Strong alignment with the Netflix Culture Memo and our long-term, values-driven approach to building the business.
