Manager, Health and Safety (Oil and Gas)
This Opportunity
The WSP Earth & Environment Business Line is seeking an energetic and innovative professional to manage multiple client account Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Programs for the Oil & Gas (O&G) Sector. Join WSP’s Health, Safety Environment and Quality (HSEQ) team on a full-time basis in the United States (US). The successful candidate will provide HSE support services to our O&G sector project and business development teams, as well as supporting WSP US national HSEQ programs. The position will report to the Earth & Environment HSE Director.
The US O&G HSE Manager position is an internally focused role that facilitates consistent safety performance and delivery for our key client accounts across the geographic spread of the portfolio. In alignment with WSP’s existing enterprise-wide client programs, this role will develop internal and external strategic, trusted partnerships that bolster WSPs implementation of and reputation for a World Class Safety Program.
This person will collaborate with geography based HSE and operations managers, internal client account leaders, and the external client organization. They will be considered the subject matter expert regarding health, safety and environmental requirements for the O&G Sector client account program.
The role of Client Account HSE Manager requires skills in procedure and system assessment to develop tools that support compliance with both the WSP safety program and each client’s specific requirements. Promoting a positive safety culture, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and demonstrating innovation are essential.
Your Impact
- Highly visible project level support for compliance with client requirements
- Builds relationships with local operations leaders and client HSE peers
- Verifies/ audits compliance with client requirements including implementation of practices, KPI tracking, and reporting procedures
- Develops and administers client specific HSE training, as needed
- Attends client meetings, safety forums, and events corresponding to level of responsibility
- Participates in contract preparation, RFI/RFP development
- Leads incident investigation, supports care management, prepares related deliverables in compliance with client incident reporting requirements. Liaises with WSP regional HSE to support internal reporting and investigation processes.
- Oversees the corrective action assignment and completion process
- Provides HSE performance reports to Client Leadership Team and other stakeholders as requested
- Manages the implementation of client specific campaigns, updates, and changes to requirements
- Facilitates the cascading of global and regional client communications including WSP Corporate and
- Client provided alerts and focus areas to WSP teams
- Develops safety campaigns appropriate for the work in the region
- Updates on project team performance to the client at the regional level
- Proactively alerts WSP teams across regions when we have incurred an incident and share the findings to demonstrate we are leveraging our learnings to the greater team
- Develops client compliant documentation, templates, and tools to bridge client, WSP and regional regulatory requirements
- Communicates regularly with business operation leads and the corporate safety team
- Supports subcontractor prequalification and management
- Supports local operations with internal workforce coordination & management
- Completes targeted site visits, project safety reviews and other field and desktop verification activities to verify compliance with client requirements, identify opportunities for improvement and individuals/teams who should be commended
- Interfaces with regional WSP corporate HSEQ team to stay aligned with corporate policies, procedures, and tools
- Responsible for staffing of HSE personnel required to support projects within the region
- Assesses continuous improvement needs, developing action plans, and monitoring implementation and effectiveness
- Conducts project specific pre-work hazard assessment and mitigation planning support
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher. Preferably in Occupational Health, Safety or business line related field (Engineering or Environmental Sciences)
- Professional designation (OHST, ASP, CSP, PE, CIH) preferred
- Completion of or eligibility for 40 hour HAZWOPER training, 8 hr HAZWOPER supervisor training, and OSHA 10/30 training (500/501 train-the-trainer) is preferred.
- 7+ years of combined experience in HSE
- Working knowledge of related US regulations (OSHA, CFR, etc.)
- Experience with hazard identification, development of HSE controls, and incident investigation
- Experience in consulting engineering, construction, mining, oil and gas sectors a benefit
- Experience with recognized management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001) a benefit
- Communication skills, written and verbal, and training experience are critical. A relatively high level of analytical ability is required for solving difficult human, technical, or administrative challenges
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Self-starter and highly motivated
- Available for business travels and extended working hours, when required
- Fitness for duty for this position includes the ability to visit various types of projects sites in North America where walking across uneven terrain, climbing ladders and scaffolding, entering confined spaces, wearing an air purifying respirator, working in industrial settings, and working in a range of climates may be required. Visiting other countries may be required.
- Automobile Insurance and valid license to drive a vehicle is a requirement for the position.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $91,900.00 - $148,800.00
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
