About this opportunity:

The Manager, Health & Safety Major Projects is a field-based leadership role responsible for providing both technical expertise and functional Health & Safety (H&S) leadership across Major Projects portfolio in Western Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will champion the implementation and continuous improvement of H&S processes aligned with Cenovus’s Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS), ensuring full compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards.

In this role, you will support and advance H&S programs across field operations, fostering a culture of safety excellence within a collaborative, solutions-oriented environment. You will play a key role in driving consistent, high-quality safety performance across all aspects of Major Projects while supporting teams to deliver results safely and effectively.

Work Environment:

  • This is a full-time employee position working 9 days on and 5 days off shift rotation.

  • This role requires driving to our Oil Sands, Lloydminster and other operational sites in the portfolio, accommodation is provided while on shift.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with the Director and field Construction & Commissioning Management Team to establish and deliver yearly strategic goals and objectives.

  • Provide leadership and development of 8-10 Senior Health & Safety Advisors that support Major Projects. These Advisors are located at all the Cenovus assets across Western Canada and the US.

  • Collaborate across the organization to share standards and lessons learned and continuously improve the company’s performance.

  • Lead Health & Safety culture by example and provide leadership, feedback, and assistance to others. Role models a proactive approach to continuously improving health and safety performance.

  • Fostering collaboration between the Deployed H&S team and the Central H&S team, using multi-disciplinary support as a means for communication.

  • Facilitate and shape the field strategies and implementation tactics required to support Safe Work performance.

  • Manage performance and development of the Health & Safety direct reports through timely feedback and regular performance conversations. This is a team of high functioning, Senior Advisors.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

  • Experience in a leadership position.

  • Minimum 12 years' experience in the H&S function or Operations-based leadership; experience specific to oil & gas preferred.

  • CRSP, NCSO, EH&S diploma/certificate or a degree that is technically related to Major Projects (engineering, electrician, etc.).

  • Extensive technical, practical and leadership experience in H&S, including expertise in planning and experience in driving industry leadership in H&S performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with stakeholders with a strong focus on client service

  • Previous experience with, or exposure to, the development and implementation of safety standards or practices

  • Working knowledge of applicable H&S regulations, practices, and training

  • Strong working knowledge of OH&S legislation and industry standards.

  • Proven commitment to health & safety and a passionate desire to drive continuous improvement in these areas.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
