Manager of Finance Operations & Compliance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager of Finance Operations & Compliance based in Canada.

You will join a dynamic, creative, and fast-paced environment where financial operations play a critical role in supporting large-scale production work and complex project-based business models. In this role, you will ensure the integrity, accuracy, and structure of all financial processes, acting as the backbone of financial operations across the organization. You will oversee accounting activities, compliance frameworks, and financial systems governance while building scalable processes that support growth. This position bridges finance, operations, and production teams, ensuring seamless financial data flow from project execution through to reporting. You will play a key role in strengthening internal controls, improving financial visibility, and supporting strategic decision-making. The environment is collaborative and cross-functional, requiring both precision and adaptability. Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the general ledger and ensure accurate, timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements.
  • Manage core accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor payments, payroll, and contractor payments.
  • Lead tax compliance activities including corporate filings, GST/HST, IDMTC, SR&ED, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support external audits and manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, foreign exchange exposure, and treasury operations to ensure financial stability and liquidity.
  • Oversee revenue recognition and milestone-based billing processes for co-development and partnership contracts.
  • Develop and maintain structured financial systems, templates, and workflows to improve accuracy and consistency across finance operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, ensuring scalability, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Support financial reporting and insights for leadership, ensuring clarity and reliability of financial data.
  • Ensure proper governance of financial systems and data integrity across all accounting processes.
  • Requirements:

    • CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred.
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or audit roles, ideally within project-based, production, or creative industries.
    • Strong experience in tax compliance, financial reporting, and audit management.
    • Advanced proficiency with accounting systems and ERP tools (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar platforms).
    • Solid understanding of financial controls, process design, and operational accounting workflows.
    • Strong analytical mindset with a hands-on approach to data accuracy and financial integrity.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working cross-functionally with operations and leadership teams.
    • Nice to have: experience in gaming, media, or entertainment industries; exposure to milestone-based revenue models; experience supporting executive or board reporting; background in scaling finance systems and workflows in growing organizations.
