Marketing & Business Development Specialist - Life Sciences & Health Care

We have a well-established global M&BD team which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, client relationship management and reputational activities.

The team operates across several key areas including Clients & Sectors covering Sector M&BD and Client Development (where this role sits); Practice M&BD; Communications, which comprises Public Relations, Brand, Design, Events, Content and Digital; Operations & Systems, which manage strategic global pitches and operations; and Client and Market Solutions, a team dedicated to managing and driving forward firm-wide profile building initiatives and strategic growth opportunities.

Our world-renowned Life Sciences and Health Care sector (LSHC) comprises more than 500 lawyers around the world who advise more than 1,000 clients spanning pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, medical devices and technology, digital health, as well as health care providers, payors, and services.

We need a proactive and detail-oriented specialist to support the delivery of marketing and business development initiatives for the LSHC and the life sciences regulatory practices. The role will report into a Senior Manager and work closely with global M&BD colleagues, and sector leadership.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and close-knit team, operating globally across the full LSHC Ssector. You will support the execution of client development and profile-raising initiatives for the sector and the LSHC regulatory practices, to ensure we:

  • deliver on marketing and business development initiatives aligned with sector priorities
  • support opportunities to grow our revenues
  • raise the firm’s profile and position within our key markets
  • help coordinate people, knowledge, and resources in an effective and efficient manner

There will also be opportunities to support key initiatives that cross sectors and practices. This candidate will work closely with other members of our global M&BD team to ensure that LSHC programs support the firm and sector priorities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

PITCHING, TARGETING, AND NEW BUSINESS GENERATION

  • Draft and coordinate responses to RFPs, customized pitches, and presentations.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials to support new business opportunities.
  • Maintain and update credentials, pitch content, and marketing materials.
  • Prepare pitch teams for presentations and support post-pitch reviews.
  • Leverage firm technologies to track pitch activity and engagement.
  • Maintaining organized and up-to-date M&BD information and materials.

PROFILE RAISING, MARKETING CAMPAIGNS, AND THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

  • Create and implement integrated marketing campaigns for the sector and practices to help raise our profile and awareness among our key target audiences, and generate opportunities to meet potential clients.
  • Assist in content development and distribution via internal and external channels, including social media.
  • Coordinate and support client seminars, webinars, association activities, and other marketing-oriented events and programs, including the development of program materials, day-of support and follow up, including metrics-driven program reporting.
  • Build and manage relationships with membership associations and programs with which the firm is a member of and/or partner.
  • Draft, coordinate, and leverage directory submissions for ranking organizations/publications.
  • Create and maintain targeted mailing lists for client communications, events, seminars.
  • Promote sector and practice capabilities and activities across the firm, through regular internal newsletters, active participation at team meetings, and maintenance of intranet sites.
  • Support the M&BD team and central PR team on effective profile raising plans and campaigns for both the practice and individual partners.
  • Help to initiate and implement strategic marketing and business development campaigns and projects for the sector and practice areas, including digital health, medtech, AI, etc.

CLIENT DEVELOPMENT

  • Create and maintain targeted mailing lists for client communications, events, and seminars.
  • Conduct research on sector, market, and client trends to support business development efforts.
  • Assist in developing client toolkits, targeting initiatives, and outreach efforts.
  • Support client development activities and follow-up actions.

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING

  • Assist with coordination of sector and practice activities and share best practices and processes across the global Sector team.
  • Support internal reporting and communication of M&BD activities.
  • Maintain newsletters and intranet.

WIDER M&BD PROJECTS

  • Contribute to broader department projects for other sectors and the Global Regulatory & IP practices.
  • All members of the firm are expected to participate in our global Responsible Business program.
  • Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location, and services.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to independently execute campaigns and other assigned projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Able to think broadly and demonstrate a high level of initiative.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter.
  • Pragmatic, diplomatic and resourceful, with the ability to adapt quickly to different situations and personalities.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively, especially with teams across countries and time zones.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to multi-task and maintain an excellent eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5)+ years of relevant experience required, preferably in a legal or professional services sector.
  • Established knowledge and experience of the life sciences and health care sector preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, communications, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

HOURS

Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including lunch hour, with flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed.

In Washington, D.C., the expected base salary range for this role is $79,050 - $111,230 per year.

This range reflects a good-faith estimate of pay at the time of posting; the actual compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as the candidate’s qualifications. This position is eligible for additional forms of compensation, which may include annual discretionary bonuses. Employees in this role are also eligible for benefits offered by the firm, subject to applicable plan terms and conditions, which currently include medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) retirement plan; and paid time off.
