Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Material Handler As a Material Handler you will be responsible for loading, unloading, processing and storing hazardous and nonhazardous waste materials at a permitted waste treatment facility with supervision.
- Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and consistently maintaining safe practices
- Loads, unloads and processes solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, Federal, State and Local rules and regulations
- Operates a fork truck and Bobcat with attachments
- Directs liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage
- Performs basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed
- Perform chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues
- Utilizes barcode system equipment to document certain inventory activities
- Reviews laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials
- Uses Department of Transportation (DOT) knowledge to match and label inbound materials for storage and shipping of containers to other sites
- Utilizes proper equipment to remove samples of materials for analysis and compatibility checks
- Operates a hydraulic baler for cardboard and other materials
- Maintains operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition
- Utilizes knowledge of applicable EPA, DOT, OSHA and permit regulations
- Utilizes Arcwood coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers
- Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection and a respirator
- Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Education
- High-school diploma or equivalent (required)Experience
- 1+ years of related experience (required)
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate (preferred)
