Massage & Body Therapist Position Description
Overall Purpose: Sparrow’s Nest, as a tranquil haven for wellness, employs skilled, dedicated and
compassionate Maternity Focused Massage Therapists. Our therapists provide
specialized prenatal and postnatal massage therapy, nurturing the well-being of expecting and
new mothers.
Professional Objective: To deliver the most therapeutically beneficial and appropriate massage
and body treatments for our clientele.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
â Perform all signature massage and spa wellness therapies including prenatal, induction,
birth-prep, postpartum, C-section, Lactation, Bereavement and Therapeutic Massages.
â Evaluates clients’ specific needs and expectations to determine the best appropriate
services, products and personal attention required to achieve satisfaction
â Interacts cooperatively with other spa team members to provide a seamless customer
experience
â Presents a professional and respectful persona for customers and co-
workers
â Monitors the appointment schedule throughout the day to stay informed on
changes, and performs treatments in the allotted amount of time, remaining on
schedule
Other Duties
â Participate in all staff, team and educational meetings
â Adhere to Company policies regarding dress and appearance
â Practices the highest standard of sanitation and tidiness in the spa
â Actively builds a repeat clientele, and meets service and retail sales performance
requirements
â Uses appropriate quantities of products and laundry in accordance with company
protocols
â Participate in laundering linens (washing, drying and folding items during
shift); and inventory management, receiving, ticketing and stocking merchandise as
needed
â Communicates to management any and all occurrences involving clients or co-workers
that may require attention or follow-up
â Is responsible for cleanliness of countertops and products within the cabin, stocking the
room with linens and supplies as needed
â Performs prepwork and cleans and restocks work areas as required, (including, without
limitation, periodic sanitation under vinyl table covers with UV wand of the table
warmers).
â If not fully booked, utilizing any available time for client communications and supporting
the team as needed
Qualifications and Availability:
â A valid massage license for the State of California, and spa or practical body therapy
experience
â Preference given to those trained by Body Therapy Education’s 32 Hour Pre- and Perinatal
Massage Therapy Workshop, Developed by Carole Osborne. All instructors accepted.
Completion of Certification is highly valued, but not required.
â Special technical skills such as Rhythmic Deep Tissue Sculpting, Manual Lymphatic
Drainage, Mercier Therapy, Infant Massage Instructor Training are highly valued,
but not required
â Retail sales and customer service experience desired
â Must be available for a minimum of 16 hours per week (4 shifts) including one weekend shift (Fri, Sat, or Sun) per
week
â Customer service and team oriented
â Excellent communication and organizational skills
â Flexible, and an ability to multi-task
â High energy – able to work in a fast-paced environment
â Life-long learner, passionate about making a difference in the lives of mothers and
babies
â Emotional maturity and honed active listening skills
For candidates applying for a House-call Position, additional Qualifications include:
- Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license and insurance
- Ability to travel to clients' homes within a designated geographic area
Physical Demands:
Standing 70%, sitting 10%, walking 15%, lifting 5%, computer use 10%, bending 20%,
stooping 10%, lifting up to 50 lbs.
