MDO Teacher

Teachers for 2025-2026 School Year

The function of the Avenue MDO program is to provide a safe, Christian based, developmentally appropriate environment for all children. All of the requirements and responsibilities outlined in this job description should be handled with this goal in mind.

Duties:

  1. Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert to the needs and or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
  2. Keep classrooms clean, neat, and orderly.
  3. Keep the program directors informed, as much as possible, of any program needs.
  4. Report to the program directors any special needs or problems of individual children.
  5. Handle discipline promptly and in accordance with stated policy.
  6. Maintain effective hygiene procedures in caring for children (i.e. wipe runny noses, wash hands of children prior to lunch, etc.)
  7. Be interactive with the children in your care.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  2. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  3. Endeavors to become acquainted with students in his/her assignment.
  4. Exhibits an understanding of children’s needs and shows concern and patience in dealing with those needs.
  5. Be able to perform duties associated with daily care of children in your classroom (i.e., lifting children, playing with children on the ground level).
  6. Become certified in CPR/First Aid and keep current certification.
  7. Handle emergency situations with composure and level headedness.
  8. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  9. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with staff and families.
  10. Works as an effective team member in implementing team decisions.
  11. Demonstrates willingness to perform duties and functions as requested.
  12. Reports any complaints or grievances to program directors and/or Mark Miller.

Expectations:

  1. Report and clock in at 8:00 am to prepare for your day.
  2. Be prepared to attend and participate in daily staff meetings at 8:15 am.
  3. Attend any additional staff training and/or meetings as required.
  4. Plan, implement and evaluate lessons using Thompson’s Scope and Sequence Curriculum.
  5. Turn in monthly lesson plans on time.
  6. Create and send daily reports for each present child which include details about the day and pictures.
  7. Refrain from using your cell phone for personal reasons other than emergency during school hours, especially while children are in your care.
  8. Complete daily clean up tasks and clock out at 2:15 pm.
