Reporting to the Director, Major Pursuits (Calgary), the Mechanical Engineer will use their engineering and design experience to support the Major Pursuits Team in various activities including HVAC and Plumbing system design and collaboration with external consultants, owners, and trades. The Mechanical Engineer will have the ability to manage conflicting priorities and will support other business units within Canem.It is preferred that this position will be based out of Calgary, Alberta, however, other Canem office locations will be considered equally.
What You Will Be Working On
Project Responsibilities
Review and understand project technical requirements and applicable regulatory requirements
Develop detailed design schedules that are coordinated with the overall project schedule
Collaboration with consultant and contractor teams
Use engineering experience to develop BOMs for all HVAC, plumbing, and BAS systems
Coordinate with vendors and other parties and provide information in a timely manner to avoid delay with the design process
Work with Business Development staff to construct and maintain relationships with clients, design consultants, and other stakeholders.
Provide value engineering reviews
Execution
Ensure that design policies and procedures are followed
Identify project and construction risks
Produce schematic level analysis of the mechanical systems
Work with consultants to develop a lean compliant design for mechanical systems
Work with suppliers to source cost effective solutions
Support estimator with material take-offs
Attend collaborative design meetings with Project teams
Contribute to the continuous improvement of Canem’s pursuit process maps and risk management tools
Monitor the compliance and contractual obligations and identify risks
Monitor ongoing design efforts to ensure compliance and cost-effective design
Contribute to the development of the BIM Execution Plan
Audit the design documents against the requirements, ensuring they are compliant and meet industry quality standards
Provide support to the Construction team as required

What We Are Looking For
Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical construction projects
Minimum 3 years experience working as a mechanical designer on Design-Build or other collaborative type projects
Experience on HCF projects is an asset
Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Current knowledge of mechanical, building and municipal codes and regulations
Excellent knowledge of industry products, practices and standards
Ability to learn quickly, be flexible and adaptable
Strong organizational abilities and demonstrated attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong time management skills, specifically the ability to multi-task and re-prioritize
Ability to obtain PSPC Secret level clearance is considered an asset
