Mechanical Product Design Engineer

Starting Salary: $60,000/year (Compensation may be higher based on experience.)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Product Design Engineer to support the design and development of power distribution and power protection equipment. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys product development, mechanical design, prototype testing, and working with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative manufacturing solutions.
The successful candidate will contribute to both new product development and improvements to existing products while ensuring designs meet quality, safety, and customer requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for power protection and power distribution equipment, including switchboards, power distribution units (PDUs), and power panels
Create and maintain engineering documentation, models, and drawings for new and existing products
Collaborate with engineering, production, supply chain, service, and other departments to deliver projects on schedule
Participate in design reviews, provide technical feedback, and implement design improvements
Design, release, and evaluate mechanical prototypes while supporting prototype fabrication and testing
Lead small engineering projects from concept through implementation
Support Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), product lifecycle management, customization requests, and product optimization efforts
Work with manufacturing teams to ensure designs support efficient production and long-term product reliability
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
Minimum of 2 years of relevant mechanical design or product development experience
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative engineering team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling, including structural and thermal evaluations
Knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software
Experience designing sheet metal components, detail drawings, assembly drawings, and applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles
Familiarity with power protection or power distribution equipment and data center applications
Understanding of electrical safety standards including UL and IEC
Experience with Switchboards, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), UL 891, and UL 508 control panels
Technical writing experience
Experience designing or supporting test fixtures
Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments
