Located just outside historic Charleston on beautiful Johns Island, Sun Dog Cat Moon is an established, highly respected small-animal (dog & cat) general practice offering a full spectrum of companion-animal care — preventive medicine, dentistry, surgery, and daytime urgent care — with the integrative therapies such as acupuncture and laser therapy. As Medical Director, you'll own the medical direction of a hospital known for thoughtful medicine, client education, and strong team relationships — with the autonomy to practice your way and the work-life experience of living in a coastal community.

  • Established, community-focused practice serving Johns Island, Charleston, Kiawah, Seabrook, James Island, Mount Pleasant, and West Ashley
  • Strong reputation for high-quality, compassionate companion-animal medicine and personalized care
  • A full spectrum of care, with integrative therapies available alongside conventional medicine
  • A tenured Practice Manager who runs day-to-day operations — so your focus stays on medicine and your team
  • Opportunity to shape hospital culture, mentorship, and medical standards
  • Leadership role with the support (and CMO/regional resources) of a growing veterinary organization
  • Minutes from Charleston's beaches, waterways, dining, and historic downtown

What You'll Do
  • Provide high-quality medical, surgical, and preventive care to companion animals
  • Lead and mentor associate veterinarians and support staff
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, growth-oriented hospital culture
  • Set and uphold medical standards and drive patient outcomes
  • Build lasting client relationships through education and communication
  • Help guide strategic growth and future initiatives for the hospital
What We're Looking For
  • DVM or VMD from an accredited veterinary school
  • Active South Carolina veterinary license (or ability to obtain one)
  • A confident companion-animal clinician — open to first-time leaders; prior leadership preferred, not required
  • Comfort with routine surgery and dentistry in general practice
  • Strong communication, mentorship, and relationship-building skills
  • Openness to integrative/complementary medicine is a plus, not a requirement

  • Competitive base salary plus production (ProSal)
  • Medical Director Bonus Program
  • Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match
  • Generous PTO and paid parental leave
  • CE allowance plus paid CE days
  • AVMA, state VMA, DEA, and license reimbursement; VIN membership
  • Short and long-term disability; professional liability insurance; EAP
  • Employee pet-care discounts
  • Leadership development and mentorship
