THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN.

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Medical Records Coordinator ensures medical records compliance.

  1. Scans records into the patient charts.
  2. Gathers, processes, and maintains patient medical records.
  3. Reports patient information following all health standards.
  4. Ensures medical records are maintained in a manner compliant with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements of the medical services system.
  5. Receives medical records through electronic faxes and imports into the patient’s charts.
  6. Schedules patient's appointment with specialist, per Internal Medicine physician request.
  7. Verifies patient insurance coverage and follows the insurance company's policies for referral to specialist.
  8. Closes referral gaps after receiving outside medical records.
  9. Assists nurses with answering phone calls from physician offices and patients.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of work experience in a medical office.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain constant contact with the patient's primary insurance carrier.
  • Ability to adhere to the insurance carrier's policies, procedures, and protocols regarding the referral of the patient to a specialist.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical vocabulary.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite required.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to coordinate care for patients, within and outside providers.
