Member Engagement Specialist -- Shades Valley YMCA

Position Summary

The Member Engagement Specialist enhances member retention and satisfaction by fostering connections, promoting community-driven programs, and delivering exceptional service. This position focuses on member and nonmember engagement and connection to YMCA programs, including swim lessons, sports, camp and out-of-school-time programs, wellness offerings, and other branch initiatives. The role supports individuals in achieving their goals through personalized guidance, program participation, and recognition while creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, connected, and inspired to engage with the YMCA community.

Key Responsibilities

Cause-Driven Tours

  • Train and lead staff to provide transformational tours that emphasize the YMCA’s mission, impact, and opportunities for engagement rather than transactional interactions.
  • Connect prospective members and guests to programs and services that best meet their needs and interests.

Member & Program Engagement

  • Drive member retention by ensuring consistent engagement from the point of sale through the membership lifecycle.
  • Proactively connect members and nonmembers to YMCA programs, including swim lessons, youth sports, camp and out-of-school-time programs, wellness programs, and other branch offerings.
  • Conduct wellness orientations for new members and establish personalized plans to enhance their YMCA experience.
  • Provide eGym orientations and ensure members are familiar with equipment and technology.
  • Conduct outreach to new members, existing members, and members at risk of leaving to strengthen relationships and encourage participation.

Program Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance program availability and participation.
  • Identify and address community needs through surveys, member feedback, and other resources.
  • Develop and implement programs that align with the YMCA’s mission and respond to community interests.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Respond to Membership and Wellness inquiries.
  • Process and respond to Financial Assistance applications.
  • Assist with scheduling and training Membership and Wellness staff.
  • Manage branch social media accounts.

This role is pivotal in creating a welcoming environment, fostering a sense of belonging, and connecting members and nonmembers to meaningful YMCA programs and services that support healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility.
