ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSE

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies the physical, social, and emotional health needs of individuals and families through systematic assessment, utilization of professional skills, health history, physical evaluations, and laboratory and other diagnostic tools.
  • Utilizes appropriate or specialized knowledge and skills in the provision of direct patient care and evaluates the effectiveness of care provided.
  • Delegates appropriate nursing care functions to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, assistant nursing personnel, and students.
  • Participates in staff development programs including orientation, in-service, continuing education for nursing and other agency personnel.
  • Works toward development of innovative methods of dealing with work-site problems.
  • Teaches and counsels individuals, families, and groups on the maintenance of health, prevention of disease and disability; participates in professional and community activities on matters related to health.
  • Maintains records and reports accordingly to agency standards.
  • Prescribes and dispenses nonscheduled drugs as described in a written practice agreement with a BSHC licensed physician.
  • Makes appropriate referrals.
  • Provides continuity of care for clients receiving service from more than one agency by planning, coordinating and exchanging information.
  • Provides nursing expertise and consultation to nursing personnel and others.

  • Adheres to the terms and conditions set forth in BSHC’s corporate compliance program.

  • Ensures confidential information in accordance with BSHC’s policy and current HIPAA regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Kentucky.
  • Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
  • BLS & ACLS certified, PALS certified depending on privileges.
  • Ability to set priorities, make judgments, delegate appropriate functions, and assist others in similar decisions.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.



PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Performs medical services that are within the scope of training received in an approved program and which are also within the scope of the Supervising Physician.

  • Obtains and records case histories; performs appropriate physical examinations; presents the resulting data to the Supervising Physician when indicated, and ensures proper documentation in the BSHC Electronic Medical Record System.

  • Performs noninvasive laboratory procedures and related studies; assists licensed personnel in the performance of invasive laboratory procedures and related studies.

  • Gives injections, administers medications, and requests diagnostic studies when indicated or directed by the Supervising Physician.

  • Prescribes and administers drugs and medical devices to the extent delegated by the Supervising Physician.

  • Sutures and cares for wounds, removes sutures and clips, and changes dressings.

  • Provides patient counseling services and patient education consistent with guidelines established by the Supervising Physician.

  • Assists the Clinic’s Medical Team in delivery of services to patients; executes specific orders at the direction of the Supervising Physician.

  • Knows and accepts that the role of PA is limited.
  • Establishes effective interpersonal relationships with patients, professionals and others.
  • Maintains attributes and expresses attitudes essential to the role of a professional
  • Refers patients with problems beyond one’s professional competencies to appropriate sources of care.
  • Maintains relationship with patients referred.

  • Maintains competency through Continuing Medical Education.

  • Performs duties that are delegated by the Supervising Physician.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:


  • Graduate of an accredited or approved physician assistant training program. Must be certified in the state of Kentucky as a Physician Assistant.

  • Ability to work with staff and patients.

  • Experience in delivering medical care in a rural area is desirable.
