Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)
You will take operational leadership of the AML/CTF framework, acting as the primary liaison with the FIAU and MFSA. You will investigate escalations and file SAR/STRs, approve onboarding for PEPs and high-risk customers, run AML risk assessments, draft quarterly compliance reports for the Board, oversee CDD, screening and transaction monitoring, and coordinate mandatory AML/CTF training. You must work from Malta and obtain MFSA Fit and Proper approval.
Responsibilities
- Investigate escalations and submit Suspicious Activity and Transaction Reports (SAR/STR) to the FIAU
- Act as the designated senior management authority to approve onboarding of PEPs, RCAs, and customers in high-risk jurisdictions
- Own and conduct the AML/CFT risk assessment component of the annual Business-Wide Risk Assessment
- Draft quarterly MLRO compliance reports and present them to the Board of Directors
- Oversee customer due diligence, AML screening, and transaction monitoring
- Coordinate mandatory AML/CTF training for all staff
- Act as primary liaison with the FIAU and the MFSA
- Work permanently in Malta and secure MFSA Fit and Proper approval
Requirements
- Permanent resident in Malta with the professional background necessary to pass the MFSA Fit and Proper assessment
- Direct experience managing AML/CTF operations within a regulated financial or crypto-asset institution
- Practical experience filing reports via the FIAU goAML system
- Deep working knowledge of Maltese and EU AML legislation and the incoming MiCA regulatory standards
- Comfortable with a hybrid or remote setup and able to work self-directed
