Job Description Summary:

The Moving and Event Services Worker position provides moving and event services support to faculty, students, staff, alumni, community organizations, and others.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Perform moving and event services activities as per work order requests.
Assist with the maintenance of inventory records, logs, and other documentation.
Load and unload furniture and equipment from campus facilities onto trucks.
Manually move furniture and materials in the warehouse and other storage areas.
Assemble and disassemble furniture, and make minor repairs.
Transport materials to the appropriate destination.
Assemble, set up, and break down furniture and event items, as requested and scheduled.
Provide collection, transport, and cleanup support after events.
Support department emergency recovery efforts.
Work outside to remove snow, ice, and/or storm debris from entrances, steps, and sidewalks.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

  • A valid Driver’s license and two years of driving experience are required.

  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively and understand others.

  • Ability to display good customer skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions, and work independently on assigned tasks.

  • Basic computer skills, with the ability to respond, create and send emails.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. repeatedly without assistance, and to lift and move over 75 lbs. with assistance and/or by using the appropriate tools.

  • Ability to operate a forklift and heavy equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability and skills to drive safely to and from destinations, following traffic regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to perform light maintenance and make furniture repairs, using hand and power tools.

  • Demonstrated experience in material handling or staging and tearing down event set-ups.

  • Experience using MS Word and Excel.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position is non-exempt and eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and University policy. This position is subject to overtime (both scheduled and unscheduled).

  • This position often works a non-traditional schedule including mandatory overtime. Flexibility in scheduling and availability to accommodate special events, emergencies, and/or unscheduled work assignments, which typically include working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, is required.

  • Must be able to sit (while driving) and stand for extended periods of time; walk, climb stairs, bend and twist from the waist and knees, reach with hands and arms, push and pull, and stoop, kneel, and crouch.

  • Must frequently lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 75 pounds, with and without assistance.

  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures and weather.

  • This position has been designated as essential and may require reporting to work when the university is officially closed, weekends, and/or holidays are required.

Salary: Up to $34,000 commensurate with experience.
