Role description\:

Join us in shaping the future of warship support. We have exciting opportunities for Naval Architects at Portsmouth Naval Base, working within Naval Architecture team to deliver specialist capability across diverse projects supporting the Royal Navy’s surface fleet worldwide.

This role offers a vital and challenging position at the heart of naval capability. You’ll work directly with the surface fleet, gaining real-world exposure to waterfront ship engineering while contributing essential expertise that supports operations across the globe.

Core duties\:

  • Conducting structural analyses using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis software and theoretical methods
  • Conducting stability analyses using Paramarine naval architecture software
  • Taking part in inclining experiments of naval ships and completing the post-experiment analysis
  • Design of ship modifications and capability upgrades
  • Undertaking the technical analysis required for drydocking of ships
  • Lending expertise to the through-life maintenance and support of ships
  • Consulting on naval base facilities which require naval architecture knowledge
  • Participating in a wide range of activities including concept upgrade design, detailed design, support to build, delivery and in service support to surface ship platforms and naval base facilities

Essential skills\:

  • Qualified to degree level, MEng in Naval Architecture /Marine Technology/ Ship Science is essential
  • Experience of structural analysis using ANSYS Workbench is advantageous
  • Familiarity of naval architectural software, preferably PARAMARINE is advantageous
  • Experience of CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor is advantageous
