Occupational Therapist (OT) - School Setting

The School-Based Occupational Therapist (OT) supports students in developing the skills necessary for academic success and participation in the school environment. This role focuses on improving fine motor, sensory processing, self-care, and functional skills to help students access their educational program.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Provide occupational therapy services to students as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students’ functional needs

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and goals

  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, behavior teams, and related service providers

  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal development and progress reporting

  • Provide consultation and training to school staff on strategies to support student success

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including service logs and progress reports

  • Support students with sensory regulation, fine motor skills, handwriting, and daily living skills

  • Adapt classroom materials and environments to meet student needs

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to move, lift, and position students as needed

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods

  • Fine motor skills for documentation and therapy activities

  • Experience with sensory integration techniques

  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment

  • Ability to manage caseloads and prioritize tasks effectively

Education/Experience & Other Requirements

  • Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist

  • Experience working in a school or pediatric setting (preferred)

  • Knowledge of special education laws, including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills


Working Environment:

  • School-based settings (elementary, middle, or high school)

  • May require travel between school sites within the Paramount School District

  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment
