Job Summary:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>We are looking for a skilled <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Ontologist / Ontology Engineer<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b> <\/span>with strong expertise in formal ontology design, semantic technologies, and knowledge representation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable ontologies aligned with business requirements.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

Formal Ontology Theory<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>
<\/span><\/span><\/p>

  • Strong understanding of Description Logics and OWL profiles (EL, QL, RL, DL)<\/span><\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Knowledge of open\-world vs. closed\-world assumptions<\/span><\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

    Taxonomy & Classification Design<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>
    <\/span><\/span><\/p>

    • Ability to design clean and scalable <\/span>rdfs:subClassOf <\/span>hierarchies<\/span><\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/span><\/li>
    • Ensure proper use of <\/span>disjointness, equivalence classes, and avoid cycles/redundancy<\/span><\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul>

      Domain Modeling<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>
      <\/span><\/span><\/p>

      • Strong judgment in deciding when to create a class, property, named individual, or SKOS concept<\/span><\/span><\/span>
        <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

        SHACL / Constraint Modeling<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>
        <\/span><\/span><\/p>

        • Translate business rules into SHACL shapes<\/span><\/span><\/span>
          <\/span><\/li>
        • Handle cardinality constraints, <\/span>required <\/span>vs. multi\-valued fields, controlled vocabularies, and severity levels<\/span><\/span><\/span>
          <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

          Cross\-Ontology Integration<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>
          <\/span><\/span><\/p>

          • Experience in aligning, importing, and extending ontologies across teams<\/span><\/span><\/span>
            <\/span><\/li>
          • Maintain proper import boundaries and consistency<\/span><\/span><\/span>
            <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

            Controlled Vocabulary & Naming Standards<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>
            <\/span><\/span><\/p>

            • Define consistent IRI patterns and prefix governance<\/span><\/span><\/span>
              <\/span><\/li>
            • Proper use of <\/span>skos:prefLabel, <\/span>skos:altLabel, and <\/span>skos:definition<\/span><\/span><\/span>
              <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

              Competency Question\u2013Driven Design<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>
              <\/span><\/span><\/p>

              • Ability to gather requirements using competency questions<\/span><\/span><\/span>

              • Map business questions to ontology axioms and relationships<\/span><\/span><\/span>

                • Handle deprecation (owl:deprecated), backward compatibility, and migration impact<\/span><\/span><\/span>

                  Tool Proficiency<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>

                  • Hands\-on experience with ontology design tools (e.g., Protégé or similar)<\/span><\/span><\/span>
