Operational Targeteer
Responsibilities
When commanders make decisions that shape the battlefield, they rely on people like you - As an Operational Targeteer, you won't just process targets you'll be the critical link between strategic intent and tactical execution across a theater of operations. Working alongside Combatant Commands (CCMDs) and joint headquarters, you'll operate at the heart of the **Joint Targeting Coordination Board (JTCB)** process, driving the full Joint Targeting Cycle across multiple domains and lines of operation.This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for a seasoned targeting professional who thrives in complex, fast-moving joint environments and is ready to influence decisions at the operational level of war.What You'll Do
- Serve as a core member of the Joint Targeting Coordination Board (JTCB) process, integrating commander's intent with joint and combined targeting operations
- Develop, synchronize, and assess arget nominations across multiple domains air, land, maritime, cyber, and space
- Bridge strategic objectives and tactical strike execution, ensuring targeting products align with operational priorities and legal authorities
- Integrate with CCMD or equivalent joint headquarters staff to support theater-level targeting requirements
- Apply expertise in LOAC, IHL, and proportionality analysis to ensure compliant, defensible targeting decisions in complex environments
- Leverage advanced targeting systems and tools to produce timely, accurate, and actionable targeting products
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years w/o a degree or 10 years with AS/AA or 8 years with BA/BS or 6 years with MS/MA or 3 years with Phd
- Demonstrated experience at the operational level JTF, CCMD, or equivalent joint headquarters (tactical-only experience does not substitute)
- Prior assignment to a Joint Targeting Cell, JTCB, or equivalent joint fires/targeting organization (strongly preferred)
Preferred Certifications & Training
- Completion of Joint Targeting School (JTS) at Ft. Bragg (JFKSWCS) or equivalent service targeting course
- Joint Qualified Officer (JQO) designation or equivalent joint experience
- Working knowledge of CJCSI 3160.01, JP 3-60, and JP 3-09
Clearance:
- Active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph required
- SAP/SAR access may be required depending on assignment
What Sets You Apart
- Experience with JMEM and weaponeering tools (JWAT, JMEM/AS)
- Proficiency with targeting systems: MIDB, JADOCS, MAAS, COLISEUM, DCGS-A or equivalent
- Familiarity with SOCOM / special operations targeting processes (JPEL/JPTL)
- Experience integrating cyber and space effects into the joint targeting cycle
- Prior deployment experience in a CCMD AOR (CENTCOM, INDOPACOM, EUCOM, etc.) in a targeting or fires role
- Knowledge of Title 10 / Title 50 authorities and their targeting implications
- Familiarity with LOAC, IHL, and proportionality analysis in complex operational environments
